Does anyone know what the kid's meals are like in QF J?
We've got dom upgrades Bne-Syd-Bne for our big trip, and still hoping for upgrades for QF11/12 to/from LAX (still 4+ weeks away, so no breath holding). Although if they upgrades come through on the Intl flights, I won't expect Little Miss to get a J meal, unless they come through early.

Just curious. I'm wondering if they're that different from Y kid's meals, or if they think kids at the pointy end have posher palates. ;)

I’d have thought kids in J and F should be eating the same as everyone else for the price paid. It’s like you wouldn’t take a child to an extremely fancy restaurant (considering ticket prices these days) and expect a kids menu ;) Or at least, I wouldn’t :p

Curious to know the answer too now.

I was just on the phone to QF & thought I would ask out of curiosity myself, The desk agent told me that a child in J does get a better meal than a child in whY, but only if it is requested online or by calling QF, if no request is made then the child gets the same meal as everyone else in the J cabin.

Cheers

Josh:p

Meals in J have a large amount of choice for mains. Breakfast allows a lot of choice from a menu card.

I have found with our 2 year old that choice means that there is always something that she will like so I don't order a special (Child) meal for her.

Once you order the child meal, you are locked out of the normal menu.

On our last flight from LAX, the galley cook came to see me about breakfast for the little one (we nearly always skip supper out of LA as served too late and we are all asleep). He had a child meal (even though I hadn;t ordered one). I asked what it was - he said wedges, scrambled eggs and sausages. I declined it and instead ordered her a selection of those things I knew she would enjoy.

Depending on what your child eats, I am of the view that standard J menu on Qantas offers enough choice and I would not order a special meal as this locks you out of the menu choices.

I have never had that. On more than one occasion the special order meal was just not up to scratch, so I (or my child) has refused it and then had "normal" service.

Perhaps not expect a kid's menu, but I would want them to be able to do an appropriately sized portion for my daughter. Although I've been to plenty of US restaurants that I couldn't get to reduce portion size for me, so why would they bother with a child? :p
I wouldn't be so concerned about portion waste on a flight like I am in a restaurant.

I figured after our points upgrade from HNL-SYD last year that child meals were an option, as the FA asked us at the first meal service if we'd ordered a special meal. I told him we had, but that we'd been upgraded from Y, so her special meal was probably back there. The FAs retrieved her first special meal, but forgot about the second one, which of course was the one she wanted & they'd already taken orders and were delivering meals, so had to wait 30mins for her meal to be heated.

Thanks to all for the responses so far! As we're not definitely flying J for the big flights with the great range of food offerings (in Y+ with points upgrade requested), I'll keep our current meal request for a child's meal. And bring lots of snacks just in case, and for the AA flight LAX-DFW. :)

Somewhat off-topic, but I was impressed to find that SQ have a kids menu with 14 choices when travelling in J - more choices than adults on some routes.
