China Airlines reward seats using Qantas points

Just returned from a three week Taiwan holiday. Used QF points to go MEL-TPE-MEL in J, and this was my first time flying CI. (Previous trips have been MEL-HKG-TPE on CX.) Service was attentive. Food onboard was plentiful, and not bad.

For dinner on board last night I had lobster, and you know it was a bit firmer than you'd normally expect, but I still enjoyed it. Didn't happen to try any alcohol during the flight, but the Nespresso coffee at breakfast was nicer than the swill you sometimes find.

The newly renovated CI lounge at TPE Terminal 2 isn't much to write home about: a long space with a small food plus limited drinks area up the end. Beef noodle soup to order was OK. Much prefer the CX lounge there.

Yeah the lounge in T2 was pretty bad tbh, but T1 lounge is quite good! If you have time, that is...

Thank you for this great information lol just booked a trip to Seoul in J on China Airlines in Dec
Just curious about baggage limits ? I am taking that Qantas lounge access isn't happening lol

Has anyone encountered an issuing in entering the QF Ref # into China Airline's Manage Booking? I can't seem to locate my itinerary on China AIrlines's site however I can see it on the QF Manage my Booking screen and well as on Royal Jordanian website.

Should I be concerned?

I've been watching for a reward seat to Europe (final destination is Barcelona), just managed to nab SYD-LHR via TPE in J on 30 May 2024. All worked smoothly on QF website. I'm going to see if I can get something more direct to BCN, hopefully on Qatar using my BA points when they become bookable in a few weeks, but very happy I have this one in place if needed :)

I'm having the exact same issues. my other leg is on CX which can see the CI booking too. I called Qantas and they said, go call China airlines instead.

The strange thing is that it was working a few months ago when i went on there to select my seats. Perhaps something funny going on with their systems?

It does however come up on the app. still can't manage anything on it though!

fwiw my CI booking for tomorrow is still accessible on their website. I was even able to OLCI and put in a meal pre-order.

For me it turned fine in the end. It was strange that I couldn’t view my booking on CI closer to the departure date.

I flew CI MEL-TPE last week and ran into the same issues others posted above but in the end there were no problems.
I am experiencing the same issue. QF Booking and E-Ticket not recognised on China Airlines website.
Were you able to select a seat through QF or assigned one prior to departure by CI?

Hmmm. We booked several of these… CI through QF, flying business class. No issues with accessing the booking or selecting seats on the CI website!

I had preselected my seats via the CI website using the QF PNR everything worked as expected. It was only around 24-48 hours before the flight I ran into some login issues on the CI website. I was on a through flight connecting from QF to CI and was quite confident QF would be able to check in for the CI flight. Given the time and dates of the reported issues maybe there was a glitch in the CI system. Your PNR and name should be able to get you in.

Thanks for your updates guys. QF have handpassed it to CI. China Airlines saying it should work, otherwise wait 48 hours prior to departure to manage my booking! I'll keep persisting.

Have you tried using the App?
Depending on what you are trying to do the App the app may not work, I tried this.

For me the last 48 hours was when thing came unstuck. The advice from CI was they need to have your full name to check in including your middle name (if you have one) has to be on the ticket or you cannot board. The advice from QF (VIP Team) is the partnering agreement does not require QF to pass on your Middle name to CI. On other sites and reports on this site if your middle name is not on the CI booking when checking in and hand over your passport the CI agents will update the booking and issue your boarding pass. In my case I had checked in with QF and the CI sector was on QF paper. At boarding I was pulled from the line escorted to the desk and was reissued with a CI boarding pass that now displayed my first and middle name and I assume this came from my passport details. Sure a bit of buggering around but this was my first trip with CI and did not know what to expect. Would I fly CI again, absolutely and wouldn't have to think twice about it. @eagle_boy stop worrying it should just work out.

I had the same issue - it was fine logging into the China Airlines website and selecting my seat months ago.

But, I could no longer log in with my name and booking reference a few days prior to the flight (last week).

I've had no luck with the App either.

Thanks for the info. Not stressed about it, just find it strange others can manage their booking through CI. CI have confirmed that my middle name has come across in their system. My wife and are travelling LHR>TPE>SYD in business (all reports it is a good product) so just wanted to make sure we are seated together, which I'm sure we will be.

Hey guys, I just booked CA flights to/from Taiwan for later this year with Qantas Points. Unfortunately, I cannot select our seats via the Qantas website and also can't via the China Airlines website.

When I try via the CA website or App I use my booking reference number (provided by Qantas) and it returns this error: "Please confirm the booking information you entered. The service is limited to CI / AE confirmation numbers/flight tickets except for group reservations." The app acutally recognises me but when I click the 'manage booking' option I recive the above error.
What am I doing wrong? Is it possible to obtain a CA reference number for my booking?

I've also tried ticket numbers without success...

Thank you.
