Hi all (long time lurker, first time poster!)

I was wondering whether anyone has flown J in China Eastern/Shanghai Airlines. I've heard some good stories but also a lot of bad ones, particularly about old and outdated equipment MEL-PVG and no English IFE.

Has anyone had any recent experience? Were you able to sleep on the flight?

Many thanks!

Yes I have - 3 x MEL-PVG/PEK ret.

You have heard correct.

Slept like a baby - but I did drink the ship dry of Taittinger and then took a Xanax - they had to shake me to tell me to get off.

Seriously - service is Chinese - not SQ, CX, MH standard - it is Chinese - but they try their hearts out.

Planes are old and outdated - 100% no english IFE - you must BYO - but seats are fabulous to SIT in - they are comfortable.

Price MEL=PVG extremely cheap - if I am short of pts or can't get SQ J redemption I would fly MU again in a heart beat - direct flt MEL-PVG such a bonus.

I have no experience PVG-CDG but I did do PVG-LAX 5 or 6 years ago on MU and total experience was perfect - new metal - excellent soft product.

Pls do report back on your experience if you do go that way.

Thanks for the responses - ended up doing Virgin Australia/Etihad instead. I'm open to doing China Eastern in the future if I start hearing better reports from other AFFers, but it seemed a little to soon to give them a try.
