Have you heard of Forbidden City / Summer Palace / Tiananmen Square / Great Wall / Ming Toombs / Peking Duck / Hollywood / Chocolate - oh sorry last 2 now closed.

Seriously you need to come along some time MEL and I'll show you around - get plenty sleep before you arrive though!

bu shi bu shi! shanghai nightlife leaves beijing for dust! (but I'll give beijing another go)

yeah... all those other things... I lined up to see Mao's tomb and all that. but for a place to live? maybe it's a beijing/shanghai thing like melbourne/sydney.

But to be totally serious China is so historic that fabulously unique experiences have always and will always continue to be found in every city in every province - I never have a visit there that I do not come away amazed at some new discovery - it is a truly amazing country.

SH / BJ nightlife same same - the major reason I have spent much more time in BJ over the years is simply geographical - we source product from Tianjin and Nanjing - it has always been easier arr BJ / dep SH - BJ kinda became a second home - I just find everything easier there.

I went to Shanghai a couple of years ago for a few days and wasn't ferociously impressed. Worth going to once but I don't think it'd stand up well to repeat visits. The Bund is pretty good and the French Concession is a welcome break from typical Chinese modern urban design but Shanghai understandably lacks much of the historical landmarks of places like Beijing and Xi'an. PVG is a nice airport though and the maglev from Pudong to PVG is worth a ride, especially if you can time it for when it runs at top speed.

A picture I took today of an ice gate being built out the front of Zhaolin Park. Today's weather was OK, sunny and not very windy. Today's high: -21C, Tonight's low: -30C

Thanks for taking the time to post. We are busy walking in our boots back here in the Aussie summer-we probably look a bit strange walking up the road in shorts & t shirts along with heavy woollen socks & boots-I ended up with some Colombia buggaboots that I hope will do the job
