I haven't flown CZ before but from what I heard from others is that they treat westerners very well.

Hi
China Southern have some great J class prices back to Europe, but I know nothing about them. Safety record seems ok according to this China Southern Review & Safety Ratings | AirlineRatings.com but I'd still like to hear from someone with first hand experience of actually flying with them.

CZ has some cracking deals exSIN to Europe ATM. Paris from USD1700 return.

Aircraft choice will make all the difference. Not all their planes have full flat beds in business. If you have a full flat bed, and if that alone is enough to justify the price, you will probably be pleasantly surprised. If you go in expecting full flat beds and business class standards of other asian carriers you will probably be disappointed.

Lucky from onemileatatime has plenty of reviews of CZ's first class. The wine list was particularly poor: China Southern Archives - One Mile at a Time

I did a internal flight about 6 weeks ago with them in J and they were okay.

Work mate flew in Y this week return Perth - Guangzhou. He said never again, he coughed about the food, choice of drinks, aircraft noise and personal space. (he is 5ft 5 ...weighs 60kg and on the dreamliner)

I realise this is a bit late, but we flew them Melb-London return in June. Around $5200 for J seats. The seat configuration was great. Had the Dreamliner on the London sector.

The service was massively variable. From top notch on one sector to something out of Fawlty Towers on another. The crew varied significantly in their English fluency as well. This led to frustrations with ordering from the menu.

The menus were variable - I had a couple of delicious Chinese meals, other's so so. The wine selection is limited.

We were in the first row behind first class (2 A & C) - highly recommend these seats. Our agent couldn't reserve them and we also tried online (the CS site is terrible) but got them when we checked in.

For me, I'd fly them again for the comfort and use the extra $$$ for more fun while I'm away. Expect patchy service and you'll be happy as a clam.

China Southern are a slight pain in the cough if you are/appear Chinese without any Chinese speaking talent but I wouldn't worry for my safety.

Also whilst not directly related to the airline I find that any plane filled with mainland Chinese tends to be less pleasant as their concept of personal space and/or courtesy are different to that we'd expect in Australia. I think it was an AirAsia flight from Beijing to KL that had people clipping their nails on the tray table and brushing the clippings onto the floor ><
