Christchurch Hotel Recommendation

Hey Everyone,

I'll be travelling in early December to Christchurch for a conference at the University of Canterbury. The flight I'm booked on, QF 139, arrives fairly late @ 11:55 PM. My question is if anyone could recommend a hotel that would let me check-in at that time that is close to the venue? I see that heading into the CBD there are some hotels (i.e. Accor) that advertise 24 hour reception but from the CBD to the venue is a decent trek.

Apologies for the random question but would certainly appreciate any advice here.

I haven’t been to the University but with that late an arrival I would probably just stay at one of the airport hotels.
The Commodore is absolutely fine we have stayed several times.
It would be easy to get to the Uni from there in the morning.

Novotel and sudima are both right at the airport, walking distance. Taxi to uni in am.
A number of good motels are a short taxi ride from airport and again, easy to get to uni from there, as easy as going from the city. Airport Christchurch Motel is one I use, they have a safe box and send you a code, arriving after midnight, $175 NZ a night.

A good number of flights arrive at ~midnight, so (better) hotels-motels are used to late arrivals.
How many days in CHCH? Travel to university each day by?

The airport is on the university side of the city.: not far away. City centre (Cathedral Square) is past the turn off to university

We stayed at the Novotel a couple of weeks ago and found it easy to walk to and comfortable. About 100m from the terminal .

We stayed at the Golden Hotel last time we were in CHC. It's on Riccarton Rd close to the uni. They had our room keys ready to go when we arrived in the evening.

I'm pretty sure anywhere along there would have your key available to pick up on arrival even if reception is closed.

And if you want cheap, try Jucy Christchurch. Also within walking distance of the airport.

I'd stay near the airport, then take the direct #3 bus to the university in the morning. The bus was $2.10 last week.
