What do people do re these, these days?

As a family historian of many years, I have assembled a great many 'cousins' and an annual card is a good way just to touch base. A number of them are 'getting on' and not into e-mail and really appreciate getting a card. And to the young 'uns, its a hint that something more than an e-mail is appreciated!

I think this year I'll be sending out about 40 cards, with 10 overseas (Ouch!! About $2.45 for overseas this year!)

I used to send out a stack, but over the last few years, that list has dwindled and been pruned and this year I am only posting out 6

I haven't sent Xmas cards in years. The only people that get them are close family along with a gift. Everyone else gets a Happy Christmas message on Social media from me.

I have never sent Christmas cards. My SIL sends multiple. She has her received cards strung up around her house. Like my mum did when I was a child. I've never understood why people send cards to those they see regularly.

I bought the wife a Christmas card and then forgot to give it to her last week.

I also forgot to bring her present but that's for another thread....

I tend to only send them to the older friends and relations overseas - the others I'm in email contact with so think it's not really appropriate. People I see or talk to regularly don't get them.

Just cleaning out my late mother's hoard of cards and they are nice to read but they also take up space and although they might mean something to me, I doubt they will mean much to future generations - I also found a heap of 50s and 60s kids birthday cards that weren't even written in - must put them on ebay one day - not for monetary gain but someone might like collecting them

Mrs GPH doesn't do Christmas cards either, and this has over the years rubbed off on me.
I wanted to use the Post Card App ( Australia Post) and send a personalized message. But Oz Post are (years later) still tinkering with it. I tried the competition , of was a disaster , no delivery , then 3 delivered after a complaint . So I have now given up altogether.
Feliz navidad everyone.

Late edit: it appears the Oz Post , post card app is back :-)

I think last year was the first time I didn't send a physical card as the last of my older relatives passed away. Have been assembling a PDF of the year's news and some photos - not as one of those annoying gloats that get parodied mercilessly at this time of year - just an update to friends I don't get a chance to see.

As I don't use FB for giving out personal details of every moment of my life (my nephew posted recently "nothing beats a good poo in the morning") it's a good way to keep people informed. I get quite a few back and the odd paper card still - pretty rare though.
I do find that some friends don't seem to send anything at all ever and after a while they drop off the list. It's a sign of getting older that friends you've had for years drop out of communication. How many friends can you truly stay in touch with over the years I wonder?

I usually receive a card from my accountant and from my pension fund. I don't send return cards to either, or to anyone else unless they make me feel guilty by sending me one and I'm unlikely to see them for a long while.

Dontcha hate getting an unexpected card on Christmas Eve with no chance of reciprocating.

If you would like copy of my next door neighbours annual family Christmas photo in which they're all wearing matching t-shirts (think Griswalds) along with the eight page letter about Peggy's achievements in dance class, Robbie losing a tooth in a bicycle accident in the back yard and... Wait for it... Graphic details of Doug's hernia operation just let me know.

Afterall, Christmas is about (over)sharing!

I sent 6 Christmas cards this year, 4 of them to AFF members, this thread was a reminder,

I don't get any Christmas cards at home but I still get a few delivered to work.

A few years ago one of our suppliers sent out a bunch of Christmas cards and for some strange reason I got some blank ones as well, so I on forwarded them to a few AFFer members. they were A4 size with a nautical theme, most would never received a card that big so I guess to those that received them would have remember them.

Going by this year's results I'd just about call them dead. I received one physical card. Even the doctor's window across the road from me seems to have only half a dozen cards stuck in his venetian blind. Normally it would be full - I'm guessing 80% of them would be from pharmaceutical companies so even they are giving up on them? Some doctors here could comment.

I still send and like to receive Christmas cards.
I find email and facebook greetings rather impersonal. If writing in a card is too much bother, just cross me off your list.

I know you said this on the 8th, but the postman just came - with the first Christmas cards I've received!
