Who cares what they gift their child
Those that no longer have a choice of flying QF. Huge difference between flying QF and the rest of the family.

JQ is a mighty big success even if it cost Qantas mainline something
If they were that successful why are there many that have sworn never again? Jetstar is extremely lucky we live in tough times and people still have the desire to travel but only on very cheap airfares.

I don't disagree. But I think some people here are just as guilty as some elements of QF management.

You simply can't look at things from a purely business perspective as some there do. Just the same, I don't believe you can look at things from a pure consumer perspective - both views are an easy way to destroy your company.

The "many" you say swear never again are in the vast minority. The figures prove it.

Jetstar would succeed in a raging boom economy. 18 weekly MEL-PERvv. Similar PER-SYD. PER-OOL and PER-BNE. 14 weekly PER-ADL.

Perth is boom town yet it has a very strong JQ and QF presence. People in Australia will always travel and most will want to do it in the most cost effective way possible. That's the realities of the market, Qantas saw what was happening with DJ back when Ansett collapsed and acted appropriately.

They made an excellent decision. QFd is still VERY healthy. It was (IMO) only with the addition of significant competition on transpacific routes, the added competition from middle eastern carriers and cost increases that QFi started to become a real problem. It was a number of reasons that all came at once.

It all stays in the family

Alan Joyce doesn't seem to see it that way. When talking about passenger leaving Australia he only likes to mention QFi numbers without inclusion of the rest of "the family". That suggests keeping it in the family means nothing.

Gifting 7-9% of QFi business to JQi can't have helped either.
