My son was recently on a Qantas flight from Singapore to Australia that was delayed by around 15hrs and resulted in him having to purchase overnight accommodation in Singapore awaiting the revised departure

The fare was purchased on my Amex Reserve card and I was initially going to channel the claim through them but am unable to do so because the outbound sector was on SQ and funded using my KrisFlyer miles.

I have found the Qantas Compensation and Refunds policy online but there is no link to make a claim .... no surprises there i guess

I assume that I am not the first person ever to make such a claim and was hoping that somebody here might be able to point me in the right direction. Any help greatly appreciated

My SIL is still waiting on a claim from last October. For one that was approved verbally over the phone.

Did he receive any communications from QF saying the flight would be 15 hours late? In my experience QF have been pretty good at offering accommodation in Singapore, but maybe all hotels were full (e.g. F1 race?).
The first step is to send the customer care form using the link above (keep a screenshot) and if QF doesn't reply in a few weeks then submit to the travel insurer (if your son had travel insurance). Insurers always ask that claims be made directly with airline first.

He got a text message two days prior to departure. After that nothing except advice of further delays. No offers of assistance etc

I booked him a room at the airport hotel

I departed the same night as my son’s delayed flight on a different carrier. Saw three guys chatting having turned up for the QF flight. No idea of the delay, nobody from QF to speak with, a memo explaining the delay but no offers of help

They were trying to reorganise next day meetings and figure out who had the best FF status to try and get through to the Call Centre

It was SGD500 for the night. QF policy is to offer AUD200. I’ll be putting in a claim shortly. See how we go 🤷🏻‍♂️

Miracle. After 12 months the claim has been paid this week.

Are you sure you can't claim using the insurance? Did you happen to pay the taxes for the outbound sector using this card? If so, I think you might be able to claim.

Obviously, first step is claiming from the airline though.

Thank, I’m actually not sure which card I used but that’s really helpful info, I’ll look it up
