I saw little use to Velocity until I realised that transfers to Krisflyer offered access to the whole of the Star Alliance network, including crazy mixed carrier itineraries. I hope those transfers come back - or if not, access to some other network. I agree that redemption on only VA would offer me limited opportunities for attractive redemptions.
My tendancy leans towards Virgin having to join an alliance. With Rex challenging it could be the big difference, especially post Covid.
There also maybe some incentives from alliances so there's less an initial financial burden.

Then again time will tell, and I've brought up the alliance questions all over again!

Just did a big Velocity / Virgin survey and rated them woeful pointing out lack of a proper international partnership alliance and proper premium cabin avails for point redemptions on it as a massive handbrake.
They need to hear this....

yeah but...

We're not allowed to travel anywhere right now so there is no immediate need for redemption routes. Ten months ago we thought VA was going to disappear and our points would be worthless. Now they seem to be rebuilding, bit by bit. I am genuinely hopeful that this could include an alliance or partnerships to allow redemption on a network of international routes. I would prefer to encourage right now rather than throw stones.

Takes months / years for them to set these deals out so thought might as well get them working on it (lol as if they will listen anyway)

Just got my share - 159 points
Same on my end, balance is now 186 and not really enthusiastic about it increasing.. if I fly VA I’m sure we all have access to Amex Membership Rewards providing us with the option.. will be great when we all have some more long term clarity where borders are not opening & shutting...!

And the same here 159 points (total now 219 points), which means that 125,786 people registered for their share of the points. At least that suggests there is still a sizeable group out there, hanging on. As VA have substantially cut back their flights through Canberra, and the VA Lounge is still 'Under Review' they're not really an option for me at the moment
