Classic Award Booking Cancellation Fees & Refund Processing Time

Hi everyone,

has anyone cancelled their award booking with QF recently? How long did you wait for the refund to be processed?
I've just cancelled a one way ticket and wanted to book something else immediately but the points are not yet in the account. It totally slipped from my mind that the whole booking might go through QF refund process. I understand the cash portion might take longer, but the points?
Speaking to he agents that I could reach, I was advised that it might take up to 2 weeks to process the refund, the same information is available on the website. But is that to be trusted? Two weeks is cutting it fine for me, so is there a way to expedite it other than calling the QF call centre?
Thanks.

Cheers, Mark
You can call to change an existing booking, so need to cancel and wait for points to hit your account and rebook, they can sort all at the time of calling.

I was too quick on the trigger, cancelled online and when called through they said they can't do anything.

In my experience over the last six months, refunds for ex Australia awards initiated online have taken between one and five business days with points refunded a day or three before the +++ hits the credit card. For bookings with +++ paid in a foreign currency refund processing have sometimes taken longer; once I had to call after two weeks.

Having made a date error I cancelled a reward flight (mentioned it in the travel mistakes thread)
Points were done promptly within 24 hours
$$ took 4 days

Thanks @serfty! Points are back in my account and I can get back to booking my flights. I'll follow QF up if the money doesn't hit my account in a couple weeks time, it's a foreign currency refund.
Thanks again to everyone for the usual quick responsešŸ˜Š

Iā€™m sure this has been answered elsewhere before and that there is likely a better topic for this question so apologies from the outset. Made an award booking in error a few hours ago. Any chance this can be cancelled and have the 6,000pt cancellation fee waved? Assuming itā€™s a no.

As long as you meet those criteria, ime it just works and you don't need to chase it up.

If you don't meet the criteria, then consider changing your existing booking by calling up and using the "Same day no mistake" policy to change without paying the 5000pt change fee.
Perfect!
Is this going to be a case of I cancel online and get charged and then I will have to chase them up?

EDIT: Letā€™s find out! šŸ˜‚
The main gotchas are the booking must originate in Australia and travel must be commencing more than 30 days in advance.

Count me ā€œgotchedā€ then on count 1. šŸ˜‚

Oh well, Iā€™m sure it will be worth it to avoid the whinges from the other NoNames when rushing through a 1hr transit in Calgary. YUL-YVR non-stop on AC will suit them much better. šŸ˜‚

EDIT: maybe I will argue on the basis that the information I was given when I called prior to making this post was that there was no cancel fee. Didnā€™t trust Sth Africa, hence asking here.

I got caught by this outside Australia rule too
Alas
I think US booked flights are within 24 hours and not same day.

Just checked and they are:

For US customers: In accordance with the US Department of Transportation rules, customers who purchase an Reward ticket in the United States may cancel their booking and have their ticket refunded without incurring the Cancellation Refund Fee within 24 hours of ticketing when the ticket was purchased one week or more prior to scheduled departure of the first flight in the itinerary.

Hi all,

I have an award booking flying J on 18 JUN MEL-NADI-LAX (Fiji Airways) and LAX-SYD flying QF (again in J) on 07 JUL.

I think I paid about ~120k points + fee for.both bookings.

Can I cancel and still receive my points amd fee back?

How long before departure do I have to do it?

All bookings were made on QF website.

Cheers.

Yes, you will get your points and taxes/fees back minus the cancellation fee of 6k points per passenger.

So , there's only 1 passenger and there are 2 legs.

1st leg is 18 June.
2nd is 07 Jul.

Was approx ~120K points each (~220K total)

I have yet to make a decision. What I would also like to know is when would I have to cancel by in order to still receive points + fees back? IE how long do I have from hereon out ? Would like to know how much longer I have to decide for planning purposes.

Cheers.
