Any thoughts on why I can find award flight from europe on AY to Hong Kong, and a flight from Hong Kong to Australia on QF, with a 2 hour layover, but multi-city won't bring them up at the same time?

They're out there. look at a route like MEL-DFW (and v.v.) which may not come to front of mid. I got seats in J (reward) just normally (no special request) for Feb just a few months ago...

so things like BNE-LAX may also be an option (as well as FJ as noted).

Your doing better than me, especially without having to request from the bot :) Have my EF Alerts setup for late September, early October for a while and still am awaiting a QF metal flight to appear in J for a return LAX-SYD or LAX-MEL flights.

I guess that is where Flexibility with other airlines comes in as I could have snagged Fiji by now.

As an aside, for those mentioning EK for Europe. Yes you could use a mixture of MH/EK to get to/from Europe but taxes for EK are horrendous at around $1500-$1700 per person each way. YMMV.

but that's what I mean. say if you also look for DFW-SYD/MEL, LAX-BNE etc as QF options you may find things. Yes, DFW involves a backtrack from LAX ifone is on/near the west coast, but if one wants a seat back to oz, these may be options to take if available (and find a cheap way to get to DFW).

Even factoring in the JFK-AKL flight too - post June (though I doubt there'd be anything in J for that!) might be considered in desperation :)

Checking to see if that seat had been snapped up or not I found it's still there, along with a return on QF8 ten days later. I'd have jumped on this however it doesn't fit into my schedule so hopefully someone else can take advantage of the seat(s).

I've been trying to find 4 economy seats on Qantas MEL-SIN or SYD-SIN or SYD-BKK for mid December and I'm not seeing anything. I can see one flight with BA for SYD-SIN on the 31st Dec but that's a bit too late for me.

Is it the case that the seats have already been snapped up for mid December or Qantas still hasn't released them?

I'm actually trying to get to VN or Chiang Mai around mid December. Any suggestions on alternative routes that I should search for?

Thanks!

My experience in the last year is that seats have opened up very close to departure for many of the flights I've been looking at - around T-7.

Thanks, that is encouraging to hear. I assume you mean T-7 months and not days? :P

Dilemma now is whether I should just resign to to book with JQ when they released their seats or wait around for Qantas seats.

I meant days indeed!
There were also a few seats that opened up around 23/24/25 December 2022 to travel SIN - DPS - MEL/SYD between 25 and 29 December 2022. I was watching them popping up every day!

If you can attain Singapore or Velocity points, there's heaps of options on Singapore up until 13 December.

Hi All.

I'm coming out of my cave of the last three years and planning a few trips. (ex Syd)

I have a shed load of Qantas FF points and wondering the best way to use them.

Trip to Europe.
In looking for flights, I could not find any classic reward seats available over a 4 week sample period. (Feb 23)
Only points plus pay. (which don't seem to offer any benefit. about 50% of the ticket to be paid in cash and about 400 k points for the rest!)
I looked at a few sectors.

Trip to Bangkok.
Only marginally better.
I found one classic reward outbound, but nothing inbound.

Domestic Flights?
Lots available here.

So I guess I'll use up my points flying to remote places in Australia for the weekends........

Or am I missing a trick here?
Quite probably.

Seems a pity to 'burn' them on gift vouchers or something.
Kind of defeats the purpose in collecting them.

Just to close the loop on this one.
I ended up just buying Business seats on Emirates to Europe.
The issue was, that the sectors I wanted were code share on Emirates aircraft.
So I couldn't upgrade with QF points anyway........

I'm still looking daily for an elusive 2 x Business reward seats from London to Singapore at the end of October to complete my OWA business itinerary - currently the flight I have is on BA from LHR to SIN but it's only in Premium Economy :(

As the other 4 legs of my trip are in business, the entire itinerary has calculated up to 318k even despite one leg being in PE.

I don't want to go via Dubai / EK as the taxes they charge are ridiculous (I've just done a quick search for 1 passenger in economy from London to Singapore via Dubai - the taxes were already £291.24 which is almost AUD$600! - and that's already almost 1/2 of what I paid for taxes for 4 medium / long haul business seats), plus it won't be capped under the OWA.

Had the taxes flying EK via Dubai been cheaper, I might consider it.

I guess I'll still keep looking up until the week prior to my first flight if there's any LHR to SIN business reward seats. Hoping that there'll be some last minute ones, but I'm not holding my breath considering I could only find PE reward seats all the way back in Feb when I booked this trip.

I'm wondering if you tried HEL to SIN on AY? Yes I understand that will break up the journey a bit but on the flip side you'll avoid a hefty APD fee and there might be a chance that AY has some availability.

If it makes you feel any better about the taxes, you wouldn’t be able to include EK sectors into a OWA anyway (given EK is not OW, which I think is what you suggest when you say the points are not capped).
