Clearing customs off QF at LAX to make Delta connection?

Hi all,

Arranging trip for the better half and concerned about giving her and her 75 year old Aunt enough time to make their next connection.

Arriving on QF95 which around 19:00 on Wednesday evening to Terminal B (which is TBIT I think)

They then need flights to GSP (Greenville-Spartanburg).

I'm looking at DL1195 which departs at 23:48 from Terminal 3.

Do you think that about 3 hours is sufficient to get luggage, clear customs, walk to T3, check in, clear security and get to gate?

Anyone have tips for getting one of those golfcarts for the Aunt, she's pretty frail.

That should be plenty of time to make the connection. Sorry I can't help on the golf cart.

Would the QF and DL flight be on separate bookings? Wouldn't you be better in that instance of booking through a travel agent (for example) so that all the flights are on one booking and they may be better protected if there are any delays?

Also, DL1195 is to ATL, so you're potentially adding another connection in a large US airport. I haven't been to ATL, but, wouldn't you be better off putting them on MEL-SYD-DFW, and then AA has connections to GSP? I just did a search on QF website, and they are the options available with QF/AA. While some complain about the bus connection in SYD to T1, at least your Aunt would be looked after by QF for that connection, and you can add assistance to the booking. I'm sure AA would then provide assistance in DFW. While you may need to switch terminals in AA, it at least has a people mover above the terminals.

(On the QF website, use the multi-city search engine to provide connections which are further spread apart then the default offerings, especially SYD-MEL. It shouldn't add to the cost at all).
