wow what a close call.
Status run BKK - SIN on 3K516 (seperate booking max bundle) then from SIN - MEL and MEL - SYD in J on QF36 and 414.
On the way to the airport i realised i only had 2 hours between and flightstats informed me only 13% of these Jetstar flights arrive on time. Throw in a terminal 4 to 1 change and i was looking at being stuck in singapore.

As expected we took off an hour late and landed at 730pm, Boarding for QF36 started at 730pm but thankfully 6 others had actual linked tickets so there was someone waiting at the gate for a hot T1 transfer. It took a good 15 minutes to get to T1, and i sprinted ahead when i got to T1 as i was the only one without a thru flight..

Thankfully i got there with 3 minutes to spare according to the CC person in J and the rest were 2-3 minutes behind me.

You might have actually been lucky!

Friend of mine transferring AY—>QF at SIN. the AY flight arrived 55 mins before the QF flight, so QF offloaded them and put them on to JQ! They said they hadn’t met MCT.

If that had happened here, having separate tickets could have actually meant you got on in this case, with the others being not making it at all!

I will seriously rethink ever flying Jetstar again. In BKK i was denied from all lounges, paid 1500b to sit in miracle lounge and using terminal 4 is something i wont put myself through again.

As Gold, to retain gold as PC+ i cannot attain status on Jetstar so made the seperate booking, got jipped on lounges so i think there are some gaps in the program but accept it for what it is

The attendants in J told me they were asked to leave as there was the 11pm flight using the slot and if i didnt sprint ahead im sure they would have left.

The other issue i had was id have lost my points if the flight took off so i was considering cancelling to save my points, but thankfully it all worked out
 
I hate separate tickets!!! Booked SC run to maintain QF Plat...Ool-Mel-Akl in J then following day on separate ticket Akl -Mel-Syd....needed to book separate flight to get from Syd to Ool...booked Qf flight with 2 hour transit in Ool...strong Westerley in Syd yesterday with single runway in use...lots of domestic flights cancelled...still Westerly in Syd this am but slightly less strong...in panic booked separate Va flight from Syd to Ool leaving at 720am ( on board now) in case the later Qf flight is cancelled and my SC run is doomed...bet the later Qf from Syd to Ool goes as schedule now! (Also have BP for that flight)

I'm actually surprised at the lengths some people are willing to go just to retain a certain tier?!

Same goes for literally going out of the way (ie. adding hours onto a trip / on a convoluted route) for business / first too!

That's interesting ... as a WP in March 2020, my status gave me Miracle lounge access (Paid by Qantas group) in BKK before flying 3K to SIN on a MAX fare.

It was just before COVID hit the fan ...

Chasing status and points club is a full time job. Wine, card churning and status runs and endless hours searching for J seats.

I booked direct with Jetstar tho, no QF on ticket. I really wasn’t in a mood to investigate and all I had to do was open my Mastercard experiences app to get it for 32usd instead of 50. alas
 
So had I ... BKK-SIN on 3K max used to be a nice SC earner for under $200.
I got knocked back from the miracle lounge in March on a 3K max BKK-SIN, I wonder if anyone has had any success with access recently?

Even with my miserable luck over the years doing status runs on separate tickets and flying in circles for fun I didn't have that many issues. Lots of adrenalin rushes but nothing major.

Since covid it's a different story. It's like the airlines care even less than they did before.

Where I used to be comfortable with ~3 hour connections I'm now not sure anymore. We have SQ booking departing BNE 11:50pm Sunday night next month and I thought about taking daughter to SYD to see grandparents on Friday night and returning Sunday morning. I'm terrified of morning flight being cancelled and no seats on subsequent flights leaving us stuck in SYD with wife waiting in BNE.

We're visiting grandparents when we return from Thailand.

Rang QF premium desk from Ool...even though I had already done OLCI and the QF flight from Syd to Ool was departing in less than an hour, she cancelled the flight and gave me a full travel credit for what I paid for the flight...happy with that! :)

I’m not.

The difference between QF gold and platinum is chalk and cheese. First class lounges, release of award availability, being actually able to get through to someone who can help you! The latter alone is probably worth $1000.
