Why not go the ASA options and use the points towards gaining some status?

How about a "Family Transfer" of points to me. ;) :D Will save you the hassle of having to worry about how to use the points. Too much research and thought required, I'd say. Go for the easy option and just offload them to me.

Or me :D.

I hit the mill last year just for the satisfaction of seeing the big round number. Then I promptly organised a couple of JASAs - one PER-JNB-PER; the other PER-SCL-PER, so I now need a top-up :p.

thanks for the help everyone - some very useful posts here (espically casanovawa - thanks!).

I already had 300,000 points (combo of a pretty high card spend in the first place, hoarding and some flying), then made around 7,000x transactions on the card, earning 100 points per transaction. I used a firefox plugin called imacro to automate paying 1c transactions to my citylink account. I was doing approx 1,500-2,000 a day until nab realised and contacted me to advise me they're withdrawing the promotion from my account. The points haven't been credited to my qantas account yet (that will take 6-8 weeks), but the letter i got from nab advising me of the withdrawal of the 100 points per transaction offer, states that they will honour the points i accrued until the date they got in touch with me, so i'm fairly certain i'll be given those points. I shouldn't count my chickens before they hatch though...

genius !!!!!!!!!

I was going to suggest this as well - a lot of the flights could be done via ASA - mel-dxb-lhr, hkg-mel and then pick other awards. It wouldn't be a single ticket and a lot would depend on flexibility in terms of timing to get the other awards.

To go in Business from MEL-DXB, one way, it is 600,000+ points? Versus the OW RTW reward which is 420,000 for First?

Are you mates with Joshua?

I didn't know of this until you posted it! What a champ :D

The ASAs to get status are really only of a lot of use if you go travelling often throughout the year and can use the benefit of the status once gained, for me i usually go on one big trip a year, so to use the points any less efficiently than possible just to earn SCs for status is a bit pointless as i hardly fly the rest of the year so my status would most likely run out before the next years trip... And i think you get a lot further for the same amount of points/dollars on these OW awards than you do by stringing a bunch of classic or ASAs together don't you???

While the ASAs may work for some people with their patterns of flying and need to sit in certain seats etc, its not a given that they are the best solution for everyone.... But certainly handy to keep in mind in the mix for certain situations...

I don't have a NAB card but this was making me think of getting one and putting it in the draw, but something tells me before i got the offer NAB will have caught on to the silliness of using a rewards per transaction model without caps like other card companies have had to learn the hard way... :)

You can get some F/JASAs that are at pretty much the same points as classic awards.

Great points - for people like me an ASA works - for people who don't fly that much an ASA really only works for QF ;)

This would be why those of us with an NAB credit card want this promo. Now that I know about the plugin a slightly more conservative approach might .... Err, never mind. I hope too many people haven't tried this because it'll ruin it for the rest of us!

I think the horse will have bolted on this as the OP has stated the banked yanked him from the promo due to it.

Just surprised that it took the bank so long. ie With Citibank if I have any unusual small transactions they are normally on the phone often within minutes.

I told NAB in advance that I will be doing many small transactions in order to get the most out of this promo. The guy in card security said "sure, good luck" and disabled the alerts for small transactions during the promo period.

how did you get the offer? was it in the mail or email???

I cannot believe they would let you do that!!

Quote GPH "I think that's spelt "Rorting" while its a win for the OP its a loss for everyone else"

Ha Ha. Considering the number of "geniuses" NAB probably employs to dream-up, implement, promote and legal their promotions I still think it's fantastic that one man has out-thought the lot of them. I'd prefer to employ one "decryption" who's up-front about telling them what he intended to do than all of the NAB people combined who spend their days trying to find ways to get more out of their customers while giving them less.
