Club Jetstar Certainly Seems to Pay for Itself.

I got my email just after lunch today advising of early access to Jetstar's Return for Free sale.

So I booked a trip to Launceston next March for us, where my wife wanted to go using the free return flight offer.

After booking meals, extra leg room seats and paying for a bag, the bill came to $198 and the site stated I had saved $214 by using my Club Jetstar benefits. I then applied my $100 Jetstar voucher and paid the $98 on my Jetstar Mastercard - on which I pay no annual fees (arising from an offer to Club Jetstar members) and no service charge when booking flights.

Given the cost of Club Jetstar membership is $49 a year, and that they gave me a $30 voucher after my last renewal, and that this is supposedly a Low Cost Carrier - the value of membership is plainly there. Do any other Low Cost airlines regularly give their members such good deals as a percentage of total full fare flight costs? The non- Low Cost airlines I use don't seem to.

I think I consistently on average get better email offers from Jetstar than I get from the numerous other carriers that send stuff to my In-box.
Any thoughts?

The offers are useful if you are able to use them.

I was able to purchase 2x MEL > OOL return fares for $200 including Value Plus Pack during a member only sale for dates and times that I wanted for August and September. From all the offers they've sent in the last 9-12 months, this offer was the only I was able to make use of.

I had to look up OOL! That was a good deal.

Yes, matching time one can travel with when the offers can be used can be problematic..
I wonder if the reason I find Jetstar so attractive is because my wife and I are retired?

While JQ *says* you saved $214 using your Club Jetstar, how much would have been 'saved' without it? I suspect you may have been just $19 better off (the cost of the membership less the $30 voucher). You do get access to sales a day earlier, which could have made a difference to availability.

The $214 is indeed total saving relative to regular prices for flights and bags.

True, if I hadn't been a member I might still have gotten some of those savings, like the free return trip. But I wouldn't have gotten the 20% off bag cost, or the discounted Club Jetstar price on the initial flight outwards. And if I hadn't been a member, and someone else had snagged many or all the free return flights the day before, I'd have not got most of that total saving or the pick of the best days for me to fly.

Sorry for my tardy response.

After I joined Club Jetstar they sent me an offer to get either their Jetstar Mastercard (zero annual fee, plus 150 Jetstar dollars after a certain spend) or Jetstar Platinum Mastercard (200 Jetstar dollars after a certain spend, but said nothing about annual fees). Curiously, the basic card has "Platinum" written on it.

So I applied for the basic card, and got my 150 Jetstar dollars. As it earns a Jetstar dollar for every 100 dollars spent on non-government purchases, I've earned a few extra 100 Jetstar dollar vouchers with a six month expiry on them.

Which is the nuisance of their reward scheme, since it's only any good if I actually want to use the voucher. For example, I'm now at 93 Jetstar dollars and have stopped using the card for at least the next 8 months, because I'm booked out with trips already. I've switched all my bill payments to my Qantas card.

Curiously, the basic card has "Platinum" written on it.

I wouldn't read too much into that, my free CBA debit card has Platinum written on it too

It's a puzzling practice. When I first received my card and saw "Platinum" written on it despite its colour, I went and checked that they hadn't sent me the wrong card.

Sorry for the tardy reply.
As far as I know, regardles of whether or not you use Club Jetstar, you only get the Qantas Points if you buy the Bundles that include the points. I don't know about Status Credits.

The annoying thing with the Club Jetstar is that when you choose to fly JQ & price beat against another carrier, you’re not eligible for any of the discounts including baggage & seats so no recognition!

After paying the new $55 fee in October, I again got emailed a $30 voucher.

So that if one uses Jetstar and can make use of the voucher, the real cost of membership - so long as they keep this practice up - is $25 a year.

Gone are the days where I can book more than 4-5 weeks in advance. In saying that though I have saved $30 already using the membership on last minute flights.

Think I'll come out in front by the end of the membership year.

Also received $30 voucher after Club Jetstar auto renewal. Worth it at $25 pa not $55pa given my travel pattern. Have cancelled auto renewal.

"Club Jetstar"... doesn't really sound like a nice club hehe.
I have been a member on and off for a number of years. It is worth it if you fly them enough. I think only a handful of flights is enough to cover the price of the membership...

Good move, as most people who joined at the time when club Jetstar commenced (April 2016 perhaps?) were all about to be up for renewal.
I wasn’t prepared to pay again this year, just like I have suspended quite a number of other subscription memberships this year such as “ Ebay Plus” or “ club catch” as forecast the value of such memberships have diminished.

I have just been done by Club Jetstar .. With the covid panic, Club Jetstar extended the membership by 3 months which I thought was handy .

As you can only cancel Auto Renewal 60 days before your membership expires , I forgot to set a new calendar alert to cancel 60 days out .
So today I got my $55 charge , if I cancel it will immediately stop all benefits and I will not get a refund .
So members beware ....

Understandably, quite a lot of Club Jetstar members cancelled their subscriptions during the pandemic. But the program is almost back at pre-COVID numbers now and it has saved members a combined $32 million this year.
