Club Jetstar Certainly Seems to Pay for Itself.

Have you joined or re-joined Club Jetstar in 2023? Why/why not?
Yep I've re-joined.

I fly Jetstar quite a bit. The savings I've realised are in the many hundreds of dollars so it's a no brainer for me. The big thing for me is early access to decent sales, before they are opened up to the masses. In 2021 I was able to use the early access to book 3 trips from SYD to PER/DRW/CNS for $22 one way on dates that I preferred.

I've looked at this time and time again but flying out of SYD on JQ Dom as a QF WP is not attractive (separate terminal and no practical lounge options). So I'm better of using points (as PC member) or take advantage of QF Sale fares. If there was air-side access between SYD T2/T3, I'd probably consider JQ more often.

International "Business" also used to be attractive many moons ago but for years, the MAX Bundle takes the price to Fully Flex (rather than an in between fare that gives Points/SC/Lounge - without the Fully Flex bit).

So the $55 pa (which isn't much) is unlikely to see any value for me :(

It's probably a no brainer for folks flying in/out of other ports that JQ service regularly.

Understandably, quite a lot of Club Jetstar members cancelled their subscriptions during the pandemic. But the program is almost back at pre-COVID numbers now and it has saved members a combined $32 million this year.

More details here:

I used to be a member. First joined 2015 for NZ$29.99 and got an immediate NZ$30 voucher. By 2018 was NZ$49 with the NZ$30 voucher. Did not renew in May 2020 (CV19) and not rejoined since.
Over the years keep track of savings vs benefit. Depending on how many JQ flights broke even, made a profit and 1 year a small loss. Overall a profit. Normally book JQ plus fare and sometimes max (for QF SC). Far less often a starter fare.
At times the lower seat selection fee (ex NZ flights) did not stick. Nil response from JQ to fix that.

Club Jetstar NZ is the same numerical number to join as AU, but costs less due to exchange rate (~1.09)
Had no issues using $NZ vouchers on ex AU flights.

I've not rejoined Club Jetstar. Don't fly often enough to justify and I'd like to avoid Jetstar where possible.

If I somehow change my mind regarding Jetstar can quickly join when booking flights.

Does the membership ever go on sale ? Kinda want to join today lol but curious id they have boxing day sales
Doesn't go on sale but they may offer a voucher upon joining. Unsure the last time this was offered though

Club Jetstar email received today.

New members pay $65, existing members stays at $55

"Thank you for being a valued Club Jetstar member.

We’re emailing to inform you that, from 6 March 2024, we are making changes to the Club Jetstar Australia Terms and Conditions to reflect updates to the Club Jetstar annual fees.

From 6 March 2024:

New customers enrolling in Club Jetstar will pay an annual membership fee of $65. This is an increase of $10 from the current annual membership fee paid when new members join Club Jetstar.

Existing Club Jetstar members continue to pay an annual membership fee of $55 when renewing their membership. This has not changed from the current annual membership fee when members renew their Club Jetstar membership.

Clause 2 of the Club Jetstar Australia Terms and Conditions will be updated to remove the reference to the previous fees.

As a current Club Jetstar member, the changes to the Club Jetstar Australia Terms and Conditions will come into effect for you on the next renewal of your Club Jetstar Membership."

I have had two recent negative experiences with Jetstar....I actively try and avoid it nowadays.

Thanks heaps for sharing the info.

I always see them pushing Club Jetstar in the checkout but never bother joining as I only see it as a way to access deals before the 'public' - which always seem to have availability by the time the public can access it anyway. I didn't realise it also gives a discount on purchased bags and seat selection.

While I try to fly Jetstar as little as possible, I ran some quick numbers, and it would have been worth it for me in baggage fee savings alone. Why didn't I buy this a while ago!

I'll be sure to join up before the price goes up.

Does membership provide a discount on the bundles or only on adding baggage outside of a bundle ?

To add on, it looks like you only get a discount on baggage etc for flights you have booked AFTER becoming a member - and you will not be eligible for a discount for flights booked pre-becoming a member.
I know this because the bags and seat select for my already booked domestic flights cost the same as pre-membership 😒

Survey in the email today about possible addon features; not sure if targeted survey or not.

20th Birthday sale approaching shortly also, expect pre sale for club members. I’d imagine over the next fortnight

I think everyone on the survey list gets the same thing. Regardless an interesting idea. I'd happily pay a small amount extra on top of the annual membership to get some of these things.

They suggest either it'd be a package deal or ability to add on single items:

Seeing jetstar prices that makes you think you can finally able to afford to fly. Then remembering it just costs a extra $50 banknote to upgrade to Qantas economy. Then after going through the Qantas portal the booking process you wonder why is it so expensive to fly? Then cancel the flight on the summaries page. Vow to never fly again because flying is still unaffordable 🤣 🤣

Club Jetstar. Nothing that I’m familiar with, but it sounds rather intriguing.
