CLUB vs LOUNGE

Hi, I love this thread but have a question.
If you are using the DJ lounge but flying QF is it not a pain that you would have to leave a lot earlier to walk over to the gate to board the plane. I love the convenience of not having to leave the lounge until the flight is nearly finished boarding. Even better in MEL if you are boarding from gate 21, quite a long walk if you are boarding from gate 10 though.

I am pretty sur eyou can only use the lounge if flying on DJ on that day. They do check boarding passes etc at the lunge. This same rule applies at QC but probably not policed as much....

Has anyone used the lounge when not flying DJ?

I am interested in if you can use DJ lounge if not flying with them. As a Plat QFF member I can use the QF lounges any time I like. I am assuming if you are a DJ member you might get similar priviliges?

QP's in MEL, SYD and BNE have had a Barista service during the morning peak for quite a few months now.

YY should also add not only any way he likes it, but at ANY TIME... not limited to specific times.

Serfty - I've seen the machine in the QP but it have never seen it manned. My QF flights last year were all afternoon/evening, so that explains why I've never been able to use it. :(

Fair enough; never a problem for moi - rarely drink my long blacks in the PM!

Interesting that the BFOD regime you work under is seeming to resolve to QF more in the PM than the AM.

serfty - I'm not actually on a BFOD policy. As the General Manager, I can do as I please within reason - my expenses are vetted by my boss in Singapore so I can't go nuts.

I typically purchase lowest fare for the morning flight out (Blue Saver/Promo or Red-e-deal) and a flexi fare for the return flight. I do this because rarely is anything likely to make me miss my morning flight and forfeit the fare, but in the afternoon my work schedule during the day or traffic can result in me missing my scheduled flight. So a flexi fare means I can bump back to a later flight when required without penalty.

What I was doing in 2007 was scanning for D class fares on QF for the flight home to (a) accrue more points to retain QF Gold status, and (b) enjoy myself a bit more after a very early start and a long day interstate. So I'd buy the cheapest fare I could find for the morning flight out and then use the money I'd saved to spend on a more comfortable flight home, if possible.

Hence, some days I would have brekky at the VB Lounge in the morning and snack at the Qantas Club in the afternoon/evening (and have a nice meal on board if I snagged a D fare).

Now that VB has tiers I am aiming to retain status with them first so I will probably lose status on QF this year unless I have a few international flights. A DAS13 is possible although I'm not that keen to leave home.

Yes. FAQs; flying TT, JQ & QF.

Priority Pass obviously targets a market segment (e.g. me) for Lounge access, that "The Lounge Membership" or "Virgin Blue Status" might miss. There are pros and cons of each system... I like Priority Pass for a number of reasons.
  • Any Airline Access / BFOD
  • 75% solo travel pattern (I have to pay USD27 to take guests in with me)
  • International Lounge Access (over 500 lounges)
  • I don't need priority check-in if flying DJ
  • Additional luggage allowances & FF points aren’t something I am after on DJ.

It really is interesting that what applies to one person is not important to another person. I would dread to be the person in charge of an FF program aiming to please as many as possible.

BTW - I don't think DJ offer priority boarding, just priority checkin

(In the BNE lounge now if anyone else happens to be lol)

Would be great if there was one card for ALL situations.
