CNS closed for TC Jasper

Just looked on Accor.com and all their Cairns CBD properties are taking booking now, as well as Palm Cove, and at cheaper rates than before Jasper (I was watching before to see if it was worthwhile to cancel and rebook)

With the flood water receding, certainly is some significant road damage to Captain Cook Highway, Kuranda ranges, Gilles ranges. Will take 6-12 months to repair many of these issues, seems like the ranges will just have ongoing delays due to closures.

Check out this one, the road has like bubbled.

Will be many roadwork delays coming up!

Looks like a normal regional road in NSW 😉

In all seriousness, I hope people still go up to CNS to support the locals and not everyone just cancels.

RoadTek not mucking around. These guys are amazing. Before and after washout near Mossman and getting stuck in on the Captain Cook Highway at Ellis Beach and further up. Most roads are open and they're aiming for end of January (at least one lane) for the others.

The other scenic route from Cairns to Port Douglas (via Mareeba and Mt Molloy) is now open to traffic as of this morning. It takes a little longer but is a lovely drive through the tablelands and you can see the Barron Falls in full throttle.

I would allow 2 hours for this "scenic drive"...it will be gridlock and wont be fast...but yes at least you can get to PD now if you need to.

Capt Cook Hwy, coastal road to Port Douglas opened yesterday, one lane sections with traffic control, stop/go and continuing roadworks etc. 30000 tons of dirt had to be moved, as in trucked out and dumped elsewhere....greenies said you couldnt push it into the sea...I wonder who stopped mud going into the sea from landslides before man put the road there???

Allow about 1.5 hours for trip.

Only locals can go past the Daintree Ferry. As far as Cape Kimberly seems ok, but Alexandra Range is a one lane track that closes depending on rain/roadworks. Sometimes you can get to Cow Bay/Thorntons sometimes not. Still no public access Noah's to Cape Trib.

Been off/on rain every day but no really big totals...see what happens with TC Kirrily.

Took 30 minutes from Craiglie to Palm Cove this morning at 9.00am.

Only ferals I saw were so 2 wheels - no taxes or rego paid paid but at least there were only 3 of them 🤢

It was 30000 cubic metres of dirt not tons...

Then probably another hour from Palm Cove to City in the back to school traffic...

I havent done the drive recently, just quoting what the paper says to expect.
But it was definitely busier on the roads this morning.

Just an update...

The road over the Daintree ferry opened last week to self drive tourists but only as far as Thorntons Beach. There is a rough dirt track to Cape Trib but it is not accessible to the general public yet, if you are on a tour bus you may get through. But it closes after a heavy dew. This afternoon there was 60mm of rain in one Thunderstorm....

I drove up there today and from CNS there were about 8 roadworks stop/go places. Most were only a couple minutes wait but the one way section on Alexandra Range is quite lengthy and the wait may be around 15 - 20 mins...I got lucky going North and was waved through and only about a 7 minute wait on the return. Most businesses South of Thornton's are operating. Cape Trib area businesses are probably not...

There is massive damage to the roads over the ferry in some places it just is not there. Lots of tree damage and beach erosion as well, the whole place is now a lot more "open" and less tunnel like than it was. Creeks that were usually 5m across are now a 50m wide scar, not full of water but trees and banks destroyed from where the water was 2 months ago. There is still a long way to go to get back to "normal".

Cairns, Tablelands, Mossman Gorge and Port Douglas are operating as normal, as is Skyrail, the Kuranda Train operates on weekends now but will be back to daily services next week. Other roads are open but still have ongoing roadworks and repairs, speed reductions etc.
