Coles gift card offers

This week's adventure sees Happy Dude learning that some cards may, or may not, be locked to or by some sort of geo-boundary.

Whilst on his usual Xmas holiday on the Mornington Peninsula last week, I liberated two 10-bags of purple treasure from their hidden cave, to bring back to CBR in time for this week's promo. It was smooth sailing as the first five cards were scanned and paid for, and the first card activated. But then severe electronic headwinds blew the good ship onto Declined reef for the next four cards. Mutiny was avoided as a refund was promptly provided, albeit to a different card.

Unsure what to make of such a mysterious outcome, and still in search of a points bounty, I took another five to another store, scanned and purchased, but alas, recent history was repeated but for all five cards this time.

Will be interesting to see if any points show up in the FB accounts. For research purposes, I'll take the remaining cards back to VIC later.

Very interesting tactic, very good on you if I read correctly.

I saw the biggest wad of $250 cards at another store this arvo, not a single purple grimace in sight though. Was duly told there's only what's on the shelf. Honestly never seen so many before, should've taken a pic.

My theory is they keep the purple $100's for later in the week or just before the week offer expires & display only the $250 early on to sucker those for sale first.

I'm sorry to say that this is shop lifting!.....putting the cards in a different place within the SAME store is not but the above is....

I always check behind the display. In fact, I did that a few weeks ago and when I found a few boxes of purples then, the inspiration for this week's caper just seemed to grow.

I've moved cards between stores in the ACT before without issue but it seems interstate may be a bridge too far.

I did end up buying 10 purples today, in two separate transactions at different checkouts. But the other two stores I visited had no purples and only a few yellows on the shelf. One of those stores had "many" yellows visible behind the display.

At the local store this morning, one only purple card in stock and it would not activate; refund given. Friendly Coles person said they had the same issue yesterday and it wouldn’t be worth my time trying other stores.

Which of course I did. Plenty of stock and activation no problem.

I must say they take a little while to thaw ;) , not sure what the checkout supervisor thought when she picked them up.

They are not on the store stock levels in the first place and are replenished by agencies on an ad hoc basis, which explains their poor stocking. Some would say they have no value until activated, others would blame the Stig, whoops top gear ref!
