Combined Marriott and SPG program

Mine reverted from platinum to gold elite prior to me merging the accounts
I'm Lifetime Gold with SPG (329 nights, 11 years Gold/Platinum), and should have been grandfathered to Lifetime Gold Elite in the combined program.

However, Lifetime status currently showing as Silver Elite (in addition to Gold Elite for this year's stays) which is consistent with the new requirement of 400 nights to achieve Lifetime Gold. Clearly the grandfathering process hasn't kicked in properly.

I'll give it a few weeks to see if it's fixed automatically.

Sorry, I should've mentioned that I should be Gold Elite (based on Platinum card), but it just looked briefly hopeful since it said Platinum whilst the system change was happening. Hopefully, your grandfather status will update itself!

Hi, hoping someone can help with this. I knew about the merger, joined Marriott and linked accounts a while ago. Today Iogged into my SPG account. My name and status are there, well it says Gold whereas I am Lifetime Gold but I know that may still have to be updated. My concern is that my points are showing as zero. All of my points, nights and activity have disappeared. I phoned and was told this is because I now have a new SPG number and need to combine accounts. Just want to check this is what everyone had to do, that the only way to show your points was to combine accounts. I just don't want to complicate further if this isn't normal. Thanks for any info.

Yes, totally normal. Same thing happened to me. You need to go into your SPG account and follow the instructions to combine your SPG and Marriott accounts. Then the night tally and points tally will update to show the combined total.

If you had a Marriott account and an SPG account, you still have two account. One account should have all your points and nights from your Marriott history, while the other will have your points and nights from SPG.
These two need to be combined, but you need to do this manually. There is a step where they show the points and nights in the two programs. Makes sure the totals here are correct though

Thank you JohnPhelan and oz-mark, I really appreciate your replies. This morning, after hearing from you, I logged in to combine accounts and found the problem. Yesterday I used my old username and password to access SPG, it logged in and showed zero points.Today I did the same thing but a pop-up appeared with my new SPG member number, this didn't happen yesterday. I continued and all of my SPG points were there, phew. Thanks again.

I'm still missing about 4 or 5 nights in the total for this year (even though the stays appear in the activity history). Anyone else still missing nights?

Mine looks pretty much sorted now - status (inc lifetime) displaying correctly and nights this year / future stays a-ok.

Clearly lots of backend processes to be fixed still.

Yes missing 2 nights that were in my old SPG account; I have sent them a screenshot to try and have it rectified. Also a standoff between the hotel and SPG for 4 nights at a Design Hotel. Also 2 nights after the account merger which I believe might not have posted because they were under my "old" SPG number. It's starting to be a shambles!
Has anyone with a "new" SPG number had any recent "pre-booked" stays post to their new account correctly?

Assume the points transfer counts as activity, so we've got a new 2 year clock

Do you not earn nights on Design Hotels? I'm missing exactly 4 and these are from a Design Hotel?

My account looks good now.
Still haven’t got my birthday night credit but got an extra 10 lifetime nights somehow so I’m not complaining.

I’m still waiting for them to sort out travel package 7 night certificates so I can book some SPG hotels with mine.

They do earn nights but they haven't posted from over 3 weeks ago. SPG Program Services said "contact Design Hotel as they take care of missing stays". Hotel says "systems are not entirely operational due to the merger". Aaargh!

Thanks for the heads up jjonnboy, I'll give it some more time then.

Mine's all looking good and still have Plat Elite status.....so pretty happy with that.

I was Marriott Gold (matched from SPG) before the merger and had checked into Marriott in Singapore on the day of the merger, 19th?, and their system showed I was gold, which I was expecting due to the merger, so I went along with it at check in. Later I checked my app and it showed platinum status so I went to the reception and showed them the app and they happily changed my status, for the stay, to platinum so I received access to lounge and breakfast in the morning.

So anyone with plat status still on their app and checking in soon should show them your app to get your stat upgraded.

Bit scared to combine mine. No incentive to combine as yet anyway. Got 2, 7 night certificates booked already (before the merger) cat 7 & 8 in December and January.. Don't want to have issues.

I was also bit confused, thought I understood it all before the merger. Basically I was spg platinum, matched to Marriott platinum. I thought I was supposed to get platinum premier elite, but only got platinum. I reached out to a rep, and apparently this is correct. I then reread the documentation and realised only Marriott platinum maps to Marriott platinum premier elite. Makes sense to reward Marriott own Wishful thinking I guess :D still happy with a platinum till March 19.

If you’re SPG platinum with more than 75 nights then you will get platinum premier elite. It’s all consistent now, the old Marriott platinum needed 75 nights as well.
They gave SPG members better treatment for the 2 years transition, matching gold to gold and plat to plat, even though the requirements were easier on the SPG side.

So you're showing as Platinum Elite on both Starwood and Marriott?
