Nice for Qantas to have the companion sale Red Roo but I will have my regular rant about how this doesn't help single people who travel alone and discriminated against - Rant Over - thank you

No discrimination.Single is a choice. There are volume discounts everywhere. Individually your housing, car, hotel rooms will always cost more per head as well. Overall a couple will pay more in total than you will (if you choose to fly solo).
We have been through this before and AFF is never wrong.I'm not going to get into a debate but I think your comment of Single is a choice is certainly not true for many people - yes things are more expensive travelling as a single but it would be nice for Qantas to say well if you're single you can have 50% off the fare the same as a couple
Re companion fare: singles aren't discriminated. Far as I understand it the companion can be anyone, not just a 'spouse'. Could be a child, work colleague, client, friend....

What that establishes is that single travellers are not totally excluded from the deal.
Which is a different question.
Red Roo started this by mentioning the companion fares in the OP, but it still feels OT.
A meal is sold on a plate basis, if two or 10 people share the plate, same price. Do you feel aggrieved when restaurants offer 2-4-1 deals? A hotel room is sold on a room basis. (Legal or otherwise) if you can cram 5 people in there it's a single price (if you don't tell the hotel.) A rental car similar time based, a train ticket is per head, ... A theatre seat...etc.
An airline seat (ignoring infant in lap) is sold on a seat basis - two people occupy double the real estate and get two meals (both get lounge access if purchasing J, etc). I get where singles are coming from.
So I am offering my service as a companion to any single AFFer flying J or F, I just need some notice, PM me
I find any 2 for 1 offensive as a single person I am excluded. It is discrimination like on martial status but no one cares.

Unless it says 2 single people can't use the 2 for 1 price in the terms and conditions, it is extremely difficult to agree that single people are excluded.
It isn't necessary to exclude people completely to be discriminatory.
For example, dress standards in country pubs which make it more difficult for indigneous people to gain entry.
Or regularly holding staff meetings at 5:00 PM - that doesn't explicitly exclude women, but makes it more difficult for them to attend if they have to pick children up after school.
And yes not all women have children and some fathers pick their children up after school as well. That's the point. Discrimination doesn't have to be about absolutes.
Obviously single people are more likely to want to travel alone. I wouldn't have seen as much of the world as I have if I'd waited for someone to come with me.
There never seem to be special offers for single travellers - even though we offer some convenience for airlines.
It's easy for them to shuffle us around for operational reasons.
However, as I said, I'm not bothered by my inability to take advantage of this offer as it doesn't seem terribly attractive anyway.
- Discrimination is treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing is perceived to belong to rather than on individual merit.
Single, solo, travellers are excluded.Re companion fare: singles aren't discriminated. Far as I understand it the companion can be anyone, not just a 'spouse'. Could be a child, work colleague, client, friend....

Single, solo, travellers are excluded.
All other sales are open to everyone so Qantas and other airlines feel they need a special companion sale? Normal sales aren't enough?
In all fairness mannej I feel the point is valid. I am no longer single but excluded from the sale because I travel solo. I am a single traveller. I travel more often than most yet Qantas sees fit to exclude me from these sales. It is discriminatory. It alienates. It is poor marketing. In all fairness JohnK, single is an unnecessary addition to the argument, as it is those traveling solo affected. Marital status is irrelevant here.
