Compensation from A330 to B737 downgauge in J

Airlines have the right to do an equipement swap at times of need, but still, Aud$500 is a pittance.
So what next, you would want to try it again, ie, getting a dinner time VA 330 trans Australia flight, and that $500 would be good for what, maybe an upgrade bid when you have the urge to try the 330 again.

Was downgraded from a points upgrade last Friday night from an A330 (J) to B737 (Y), Perth to Sydney.

VA rang me while in the Lounge and offered $750.00 travel bank voucher plus 30,000 points as compensation, which essentially a free J flight one way.

Just spoke to VFF as I haven't heard anything more but was told it was approved and would be actioned and confirmed in the next couple of days.

I'd be very happy with that compo!

Meanwhile over at QF I'm getting nothing for a downgrade from refurb 330 to new 330. It's been explained to me though that this is acceptable by some here, so I'm just getting my head around that.

But when the same thing used to happen on VA all hell would brake loose.

I am not sure VA offered compo to this flying the older version of J when they were refurbishing the 332's recently, so is there really any difference between the carriers?
As to all hell breaking loose, perhaps back in the day of getting XFA/B, but not with the current refurbishments IMO.

Interesting reading. I'm on VA546 this afternoon in J and was told on checkin that it's now a 737 with a shrug and "nothing I can do about it" from the premium checkin.

Nothing has been offered

My trip next month (PER-MEL-NAN, NAN-BNE-PER) has been downgraded on both the PER-MEL and BNE-PER legs! I did phone up (the flight times also shifted slightly, but required my confirmation) and was rescheduled via Sydney (very efficiently by the call centre) on the outbound leg (currently still an A330). I hope I don't get any more surprises on check-in, really don't want a 737 on the west-east redeye! This is for a revenue fare too (booked during last years triple-points promotion).

Do you mean VA564? Not that it should matter, but is it a revenue or redemption ticket?

There is a fare difference but it's only $50. You could ask for that in your travel bank or maybe better value in points?

This was the points transfer as compensation plus I also received $750 travel bank credit.

I would be ringing VA up.

So far the social media team have just fairly abruptly said "as per the terms and conditions, we do not guarantee aircraft types". I'm contacting customer service now.

That's pretty poor form. I'm guessing that you booked at least a few weeks back? If so, the booking engine used to show the A330 flights with a "The Business" banner - which indicated the minimum level of service one could expect. Interestingly, when they changed the interface of the booking page recently, these banners were removed.

You will find a lot of Transcon flights are now 737. Many have been downgraded with 2 months+ notice.

The ground staff don't know it's a downgrade unless it happens within 48 hours of the flight.

I would certainly lodge a claim for some compensation if you have a ticket that says you are on an A330 aircraft, otherwise check those bookings carefully as many flights are now 737.

Yeah it was booked maybe 5 weeks ago. Definitely an A330. They noted at checkin that it had been downgraded.

I've sent something to customer service. Don't have high hopes

Had the same scenario, got nothing,
