Hi everyone, sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find an answer. So I achieved Virgin Platinum and then secured enough extra status credits to gift my wife the Complimentary Gold membership. Can she achieve Platinum by family pooling? In other words, should I pool to her instead of the other way around. How long does her Gold membership last? How do I maintain it? Hard to find answers on Virgin website but if anyone can help it would be appreciated. Happy travels!

My understanding is that the Comp Gold doesn't come with the status credits so she would be starting from scratch(and have to do 8 sectors)
Think the Comp Gold lasts for year (and probably the review period)

Edit:Found the clause

9.3 Companion Gold and Companion Platinum membership

If a Platinum member earns 500 Status Credits over and above the required number of Status Credits to maintain their Platinum Status (800 Status Credits) within their Benefit Period (total 1,300 Status Credits), the member is entitled to nominate a family member or friend, who is a member, to Gold Status (Companion Gold).

If a Platinum member earns 1,000 Status Credits over and above the required number of Status Credits to maintain their Platinum Status (800 Status Credits) within their Benefit Period (total 1,800 Status Credits), their nominated Companion Gold member can be upgraded to Platinum Status (Companion Platinum) by calling the Membership Contact Centre. If the Platinum member hasn’t previously nominated a Companion Gold member, then they are entitled to nominate a Companion Platinum member.

A Platinum member may nominate a Companion Gold or Companion Platinum member by calling the Membership Contact Centre at any time up until 12 months after the date the Platinum member becomes entitled to use this benefit. When a member is upgraded to Companion Gold or Companion Platinum membership, the nominated companion member will be notified by email. You can’t change the nominated companion member once they’re upgraded.

Companion Gold and Companion Platinum membership is valid for 12 months from the date of the relevant upgrade. On expiry of the 12 month period, the nominated member’s membership level will be assessed in accordance with these Terms

Well do make sure you use it, that is my advice!

Have earned a few of these over the years and never allocated them to anyone. I do believe I've never received an email advising I had one to gift, nor a remainder that that period was near expiring. They really should do both, as standard policy.

Been fighting with Virgin the past 2 weeks over one Gold Membership I had earned, that they finally GRANTED this week, after my nominated beneficiary had flown from Russia-AUH-SYD, meaning no extra miles, no lounge access en-route and no extra bag piece he was quoted near $1000 for -

Been wondering this myself. Having recently achieved Platinum, should I continue for another 500 credits to gift my partner gold (they are currently gold), or just allocate them as beneficiary to our family pooling where they will re-qualify after only 400 credits?

Yes she can achieve platinum SC required via family pooling but must fly the eligible sectors as well.

She’s unlikely to requalify for Gold on her own, but will have the eligible sectors.

The 100 status credits difference is what’s interesting. The family pooling option seems a better way to get her there rather than me going for another 500 credits to gift her Gold (as she will achieve Gold herself with 400).
