Complimentary upgrade weirdness

I have an upcoming trip to Melbourne in economy flex (K). I’ve got an upgrade request in for the return leg but didn’t bother requesting for the morning flight down.

At T-69 I got an email from the corporate travel agent saying there was a major change to the booking and looking at the details I see I’m now confirmed in business. No communication from qantas logging into the app sure enough I’m in business and can choose a seat. So it seems I’ve been blessed with a free upgrade, no complaints there.

What’s odd is in manage my booking it shows I’m in class U (ie a CR seat) and is predicting I’ll earn 18 SCs as a PC member instead of the 20 I should earn from economy flex.

I’ll relentlessly hunt them down for the missing 2SCs of course if that’s what ends up posting but just curious for others who’ve benefited from the spree of free upgrades recently have noticed the same thing?

You will earn the SC for the original flex fare.
Should not be any need to chase this up.

I know just curious if the complimentary upgrade usually shows up as a rebook into U class or if this is another IT glitch

All upgrades whether complimentary or points to business show up as U. There is nothing new in this.

The SC/points earn estimate on the website cannot differentiate between an outright U award or an upgrade from a paid fare.
The back end IT can and does differentiate them.
