I will be travelling from SYD to SFO with Japan Airlines on 10 October. My flight from SYD arrives in Narita (at 5.00pm) and I have 7 hours to change to Haneda airport for my flight to SFO (which leaves at midnight).

I have never been to Japan but am told that public transport is well organised.

Can someone please advise the best, easiest and most cost-effective way of making the change between the two airports. I am told the two best options are bus and train - pros and cons please as well as cost.

my return trip from ORD to SYD arrives and parts from Narita in late October.

Many thanks for all your help

Murray

The limousine bus is certainly the easiest option.
You will have to collect you bags at Narita, take them with you on the bus and check them in again at Haneda.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

For the train options, a good website that shows connections between trains and price is HyperDia | Timetable and Route Search in Japan.

The limo bus sounds easier, but if you just miss a bus (say the 17:55) where you have to wait 30 mins for the next one, train may be quicker.

If it was a couple hours longer, and you were feeling adventurous, you could probably store your luggage at a station and explore a bit of central Tokyo. But, as it is probably would only have 2-2.5 hours depending on how quick you get out of Narita.

Depends what you want. As everyone says, the bus is EASIER. But the train is quicker and possibly cheaper.

Negatives to it are that you have to lug luggage around. Pretty sure you need to change at least once, generally at Shinagawa. When you have to transfer you often don't have long and may find it hard to find the correct train, especially if you have never been in a Japanese station before. People are friendly and helpful but English may be limited.

Depends what you want really. If you are trying to save $15 then give it a try. If you hate buses then also try it. But if you just want to get to Haneda with no fuss then take the limo bus.

Many thanks for all your advice, comments and feedback, I really appreciate it!

safe travels

I recommend the bus is the best option. To access to Haneda, there is no direct train access, so you need to change a train. The most common way is to go to Shinagawa station by Narita express then change to Keikyu to Haneda airport. Narita express stops at JR Shinagawa platform where is about 5 minutes walk from Keikyu Shinagawa platform. 5 minutes may sound easy, but can you imagine to be there during the crazy Japanese peak hour? Narita express is all reserved seat, but Keikyu is not, so you may have 5 minutes walk with millions people with heavy luggage, then pushed and bumped by gazillions people in Keikyu? I actually did a bus trip from Haneda to Narita this morning, had a good nap and comfortable ride.
Anyway, Narita express has a special deal for visitors, check JR east website N'EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket | Fares & Passes | JR-EAST
Have a nice trip to Tokyo...

...
Not quite correct. Just got back from Tokyo and figured out the easiest way is indeed the train if you pick the right train.

From The timetable above, you just need to check you select the trains designated "_H" (e.g. "AH") for direct access to Haneda. Non stop. 75 mins or so. Buy your ticket from the counter. Cheaper than the limo bus. And in my case was easier than the bus.
