Hi,
A question that hopefully some experienced flyers may have some feedback on.
I am flying QF LHR-MEL in January in F. I need to fly though from DUB-LHR to connect to this flight.

If I book BA DUB-LHR am i
a) able to tag my bags all the way through to MEL (this would be great as I would not have to worry about collecting bags and checking them in etc and could spend more time chilling out in the first lounges) It would not be on the same booking however so how would I go about this. Is simply BA and QF being in a alliance enough or do I need to contact a call centre to help this or to help with this.
b) As I am flying first with Qantas would the one world benefits apply here for lounge access in Dublin as I am connecting to a First long Haul flight. Again this would be a separate booking so not sure if this is applicable.

"Customers flying in Economy class on the domestic or intra-European segment to connect to or from a oneworld longhaul First or Business Class flight can also use the lounge applicable to the class in which they are travelling on the longhaul segment"

Have no experience with this before so any help on the matter would be great thanks.

I have been able to get bags checked thru DUB-MEL on a couple of occasions with Aer Lingus (code share) a few years back, but from memory the flights were on a single booking.
You might have a better chance with BA than Aer Lingus who are much more of a LCC now.

Have not connected on this routing with BA, but have with Aer Lingus - on a separate booking. No through check of bags. Arrived at LHR terminal 1, entered the UK, walked to T3 and rechecked the bags.

No recognition of WP status on Aer Lingus, large excess baggage charges (even if pre-paid). But then we did pay 0 euro (+ taxes) for the fare.

I can only hope that a booking with BA gets you a better result.

Regardless of whether you book BA or EI you will end up using the EI check in facilities. Your bags can be checked all the way through to MEL. One issue, depending on your QF / OW FF status, is that EI won't add priority baggage tags so you wait in Melbourne may be a little longer. The way to get around this is simply to have your bags checked through only as far as LHR. This way you pick up your bags from T1 then head over to the QF check in at LHR Terminal 3. If you elect to check your bags all the way through to MEL your seating will typically be down the back of the plane allowing you to exit using the rear stairs and board the bus to the LHR transfer facility then another bus to Terminal 3.

Regardless of whether your connecting using the same PNR there is no Qantas / OW recognition to allow lounge access in Dublin.

As an aside, back in May 2012 with BA's acquisition of BMI there was talk of BA's bringing back their LHR-DUB-LHR flights out of T5. I'm not sure how far this has progressed.

BA now operates a few flights out of T1 on its own (BMI) metal. Make sure to book on those flights - you then should get lounge access in DUB and Priority Stickers on your luggage.

You can get EI flights with a BA code. For those flights you will get SCs and points, but no lounge access in DUB.

If booked in one ticket the luggage rule of the Most Significant Carrier will apply (So the F-Alowance of QF) even if you have to endure the EI Y-Only flight.
