Caught a flight from Cairns to Sydney tonight and when the meal service came around we where asked to pay $6.00 for a drink of wine or beer, there needs to be a consistent product that operates the same on all flights, after all they seem to be spruiking to travel on Qantas and get a drink!

I wonder what the criteria are these days, now that CityFlyer is no more. The website just says "with beer and wine offered on all city flights after 4pm" - surely Cairns and Sydney both count as cities!

Don't believe Cairns has ever had it (never being a Cityflyer service)...
Also is not applicable on Weekends.

Agree with some of the posters above that given the Premium that QF charges it should be part of the service... on all flights after lunch.

Albeit may not be workable on some of the QF Link FIFO services.

Its consistent for capital city to capital city services.

On weekends?

I really struggle to understand how QF wants to justify that (for about the same ticket price and even on the same route) you get free alcoholic drinks Monday to Friday, but not if you happen to fly on Saturday or Sunday :o

I had the same issue on TSV -BNE last month in 4D, then the FA realised I was a WP so it was free, my boss (who's a NB) was sat in 4F was also handed a free beer with a nod and a wink. Good on ya Redroo!!

Noticed this this week on CBR-BNE. First time i have ever had to pay for wine on QF with my dinner.

Another great QF 'enhancement' it seems...

Its never been on Weekends, the idea being the business traveller deserves a drink after work.

I often receive a free drink on the Cairns Sydney route - often with a wink or my money is handed back to me as change with a comment that "this is your change - you know what I mean". But it is not consistent, although I was surprised to receive a free glass of wine on a flight to Port Macquarie recently. While flights to Cairns would have more tourists than business people - it does make you feel a bit left out when business travellers on short routes between Melb - Syd do get free drinks. But flights Bris to Cairns do take a fair amount of business travellers - so it would be generous if Qantas could consider those of us who do not live in the major cities.

You get free drinks BNE CNS, just take the Dash 8 (QF link have free drinks in the evening), you might need 1 or 10 for doing the milk run.

I have asked the same question on the "Why is it?" page repost here for info.
[h=2]e: Hey Qantas, why is it that ....?[/h]
Why is it that if we are travelling KTA-PER
1. breakfast offering is only muesli no HOT food and
2. with flights for evening meal we have to PAY for a wine???

I have compared this to MEL-BNE 859 miles versus 777miles KTA-PER... both have about 10 flights a day if you takeout JQ offerings on the Mel Bne run. ...

Plus the price differential!!! ... Cheapest PER-KTA (if you can find them nowadays) vs Mel-Bne are:

Red E $170 Mel Bne $297 KTA PER
Flexi $390 Mel Bne $597 Kta Per.

Full economy is similar in that Mel Bne $795 and Kta Per is $781

Plus, I won't even go into weekend when it is impossible for the locals to get a cheap flight down to Perth to visit relatives and get back to work on Monday.

I know with the FIFO's you are making a killing on this run...but surely at these prices, a free evening drink with the meal and a HOT breakfast is not too much to ask for.

Living in a FIFO town...great!!!

The complimentary alcohol entitlements are quite clearly set out on tbe Qantas site

For economy flights between Adelaide/Brisbane/ Melbourne/Canberra/Sydney. Complimentary wine and beer from 4pm on Monday to Friday.
For economy flights between Perth and Adelaide/Canberra/Darwin/Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane. Complimentary wine and beer from 12pm on every day.

Passengers may feel that they should get free drinks on other routes, but it doesn't work that way. ;)

I personally hate these stupid "time of day" rues that QF seems to love- alcohol in domestic Why, the strange "proper food- no proper food" rules depending on the time, the options in the lounge including the no-alcohol policy before 12. They totally forget that a lot of travelers don't even know exactly what time of the day it is when traveling through multiple time zones! I genuinely enjoyed the champagne and Blue Jonny Walker at 10am in LHR T5 the other week :p

This is why I prefer QFLink... haven't paid for a drink yet :)

I do most of my flying on Qlink, so got a real shock when I was asked to pay on a Qantas flight. I thought we were heading down the Jet* track!

Yet they choose not to adhere to these, which is my point. Flew CBR-BNE on Monday, departed at 5pm. As per your quote, clearly i should have been offered complimentary alcohol. But no, $6 please. Why?
