Conversations with a DYKWIA

Had one DYKWIA moment on an AFF run once. One AFFer boomed at the FLounge staff "You've got about fifteen Platinums here, so you better look after us."

I almost fell through the floor with embarassment, then I was praying they wouldn't get my meal mixed up with his because - judging by the looks the staff gave each other - his was bound to come with extra loogey sauce...

I actually remember that, I was busily looking for something to hide under :(

Great report. You could have had more fun with him. But end of a long week and all that.

I've actually removed all bag tags from my luggage. I enjoy the looks from gold and silver when I get the good seat 4C/D on 737 and the CSMs have been doing the welcome on board consistently recently. So more looks when those around get nothing. Best was last Saturday when the CSM offered me J breakfast in row 4 after completely J service. Oh and had a bit of a chat as well.

Moral: I don't care if they know who I am, as long as the airline does.

Oh gosh.....One of those things which you want to hide when they happen, but are funny after

Got to love people.

Pull you head in - I fly as many personal flights (return SYD/MEL weekly) on VA as I do QF therefore actually have the right to criticise due to experiencing both sides of the fence.

I will maintain Qantas platinum, Virgin Gold and possibly Air NZ Gold in the next 12 months - what will you do?

I am sorry but you have completely misunderstood my intent. I thought it was funny that you were berating the previous poster for berating a delusional DYKWIA, and then you fell into the same trap yourself. And your follow-up message has compounded the effect.

Priceless really, and my status with either domestic carrier is irrelevant so I won't bore you with that.

Your intent was very clear from the start.

Don't try clouding it with hyperbole

Is it just me, or do others find that Silver members, seem to be the worst DYKWIAs of all?

I've noticed, they seem to have a very strong sense of entitlement.

Funnily I have noticed something a little similar in sports.
Bronze is just happy to be there, gold (& WP) have their rightful place. Silver is never happy. They lost the gold & were robbed. (watch the podium at the next Olympics / Com Games / World titles - it's all in the body language, fixed smiles & baring of teeth).

Maybe Silver level frequent flyers have passed those bovine bronzes, & as they are almost gold are already worthy of gold- recognition... have read up on the greener pastures ahead, & don't want to be overlooked in any situation. Sort of hyperaware of their place in the order of things.

Well quite clearly it wasn't. I was accusing you of doing the very thing you had previously criticised. Dictionary perfect hypocrisy, I thought, so I posted as such. What did you think I meant?

This I really don't understand, unless there is another word I should have used that conveys the meaning "Just a little bit hypocritical".

Anyway - it was meant to be a funny one-liner and now it has turned into a rather tedious tale. Oh well.

My observations is it's mainly "noveau" PS - those who have just attained a status level for the first time.

I remember myself when I was briefly Qantas FF Blue status (more than a just few years ago).

By the time SG or WP is attained most tend to realise the reality of the scheme of things and one's place in it.
