Conversion between Amex MR and Qantas QFF points ?

Thanks for drawing my attention to the 15% bonus. That may override any other options...

Then I said that I did understand, of course, that I would no longer be able to transfer points to QF when I was left with only the AP Reserve card.

But she said, O no, you can still do that because these points are in the top tier of the MR programme. I said that doesn't seem to tally with what I read on the Amex site. She put me on hold, came back and confirmed that I would still be able to transfer them to QF, notwithstanding that I no longer had the AP charge card.

Does this mean that my current points are in some way quarantined within the ascent premium programme? I was going to transfer half my points to QF before cancelling the charge card. But based on what I've just been told maybe I can risk leaving them all as MR points, linked only to my continuing Reserve card, and still transfer to QF when I need to....

I called Amex and the lady who answered was very certain that you would be downgraded to MR Ascent when you cancel the Plat Charge because only the Reserve would be active. You would then NOT be able to transfer the MR Ascent points to QF.

Can't say I'm surprised...

Initially I got the same reaction when I called again today (this time to transfer half my current MR points to QF, before the bonus period expires). I put the same question to today's call centre person and at first she gave the pro forma response. I asked her to double check, pointing out that my points were linked to both cards (Plat Charge & Plat Reserve). She went away, came back, and said that as they were linked yes, I would still be able to transfer to QF from the PR card notwithstanding cancellation of the PC card. She did point out that the saving of the increased PC annual fee would be compromised by the $395 annual fee on the PR card (which at present is complimentary). Still a net saving of $805, tho.

Having transferred half my current points to QF today anyhow, I'm not too worried if I find that both these call centre responses were incorrect. But there does seem to be some doubt....

I'd be more worried about the QFF offer having completely disappeared from the site within two days, which suggests that it was almost certainly an error... attempts for clarification or confirmation to date have failed.

This is exactly right. As Rachel Hunter may have said, It won't happen overnight, but it will happen.
