The Langham Mongkok has been on my radar for ages, on the multiple recommendations of AFFers. I've been a long time stayer at the Mira (on Nathan Rd, opposite Kowloon Park) so was interested to compare.

The Langham Mongkok is now the Cordis Langham Place (my taxi driver from Kowloon station had never heard of it until I said the old name).

I had a Club room booked, at a rate that included late (3pm) check-out. I arrived at the pub about 8:50pm and in spite of the taxi driver leaning on the horn a few times, there was no-one there to greet us. I usually want to do my own bags, but this time when I was tired and the bag weighed a ton, with business documents from my trip away, I was a bit peeved not to get any help. Fortunately a guy turned up in time to point me to the right bank of lifts for the Club floor and check-in. There, the lady tapped away for seemingly forever. Un-oh .. I really don't need a problem right now ... dinner at Ming Court is a-waiting! Finally, key card was produced and a sheet showing all the Club benefits. Then she checked her screen again, went to the cupboard and brought out a cold towel. I'm guessing that should have been first!

My room was on the 39th floor and judging by the emergency evac diagram, was one of the smaller rooms on the floor. No matter - I was only there to crash for the night.

Room was good - aircon working and unobtrusive; views OK; blinds give total black-out; bathroom functional.

Met a friend at their 1 Michelin Starred Ming Court restaurant. Will review elsewhere; it was OK, but we didn't really have the meal to give it a decent test.

I went back to the Club at about 10:30, hoping to squeeze in a drink in before they closed, I thought at 10:30pm. Indeed, the staff were clearing everything away, but I managed to help myself to a white before it disappeared. I was really, really annoyed when I went back to my room and reviewed the Club perks sheet, which said that the lounge would be open for drinks until 11:00pm!! Clearly as there was no-one there at 10:30pm (until I arrived and a couple of others arrived at the same time) they decided to close up. Absolutely pizz-poor.

One of the views, and the drinks selection. Wines European.

Breakfast in the lounge was good, without being spectacular; on the way to breakfast, outside a room on my floor I passed the same used room service plates etc. that was there the night before. One of the Club perks on the sheet was 30 mins free of a 60m spa session OR a free foot massage. When I went to claim the latter, after a morning trotting around HKG, it was denied, with the attendant saying the foot thing was part of the 60 minute session. I couldn't be bothered arguing.

Check-out was uneventful, but I have a niggling thought that I was some-how over-charged for dinner. Can't find the docket until I unpack.

The Cordis is directly opposite the Langham Place shopping centre, with the Mongkok MRT accessible through it. Otherwise, I can't see much to recommend the location - the traffic getting out to Kowloon station was horrendous. (And why would you get guests to stand in line in the heat waiting for a taxi, rather than calling them outside when the taxi arrives?)

Overall, the hard product is very good and there are virtues and drawbacks for the location; views are great. The soft product (service) is, frankly, cough for a hotel of this standard. Will be interested to hear from people who had stayed here under the former branding / management; for their sake I hope my experience wasn't indicative, otherwise I might be welcoming them down the road at the Mira:)

It was an interesting diversion, but I'm going to stick with the Mira.

I've stayed at Mongkok Langham five times now, most recently last July. And have been a great fan. The Cordis changeover was in progress. We both commented and I wrote about it on my TR that we thought standards were slipping already. No more kids room. No free treats in the room. Pool was closed the whole time - just wet, no thunderstorms and I have no issues swimming in the rain. Alcoholic drinks not as premium. Service was just - different. Not as upmarket. Maybe it was our last time too.

Interesting hotel. Lounge serve drinks till 11pm, complementary massage... I guess it is all too good to be true :D

Have stayed here once (2012) in a club suite/room combo ... have another club booking in Dec for our two day stopover on the way to Europe. IMO it's a decent winter alternative at ~ 1/3 the price of our normal HKG digs.

At least the club/lounge looks better...

You do pay extra for the Club rooms that give lounge access.

Such a shame to hear of your experiences, RooFlyer. We stayed there in Nov 2014 (as Langham Place) as it was really good. We got all the listed benefits of staying in a Club Room and we had a choice of eating breakfast downstairs or in the lounge for no additional cost.

Hopefully, this is not going to be typical of the new Cordis brand or indeed an indication of a slide in stnadards generally for Langham Hospitality. If they can't get it right in HK, which typically has very good service standards, then I am a tad concerned.

You book a 60 minute session and pay for 30 mins ( or In my case, not!).

It sounds like they have reworded this. Last November, it was get 30mins extra or a 30min foot massage when you pay for 60mins, i.e. 90mins for the price of 60mins. We took advantage of this and choose the foot massage.

You can still get breakfast downstairs. And re-reading the perks sheet, what you describe in the spa might still apply. It says:

Complimentary 30 minutes per any 60 minute Chuan Spa treatment valued over HK$860 or a mini feet treatment (not coughulative).

I read it as you could get a free foot treatment instead of the 60 minutes with 30 free deal but what you describe fits.

All I wanted is some soothing of aching feet :) .

Jojen had raved about this hotel, and I have it on my radar for our stay next year. May have to have a look at Mira.

Don't think ownership has changed - Cordis is just a subbrand of Langham

After reading some recent reports Cordis in Mongkok its not all that bad, the club floor prices there have been like a yo yo in past month, highest price for 6 nights for 2 pax was $2.5k snagged it on our favourite accom. site booking.com.au for $2002, so hope they have plenty of food and booze cause we're a coming to HKG on our 20th or thereabouts visit. Just hope our expat Aussie friends in HK wont make us drink more :D

At one stage this was the crew hotel in HK. Quite liked it.

Yes - I remember seeing lots of crew and Pilots back in 2014 - BA from memory.

I preferred the original Langham myself.

This was one of my favourite places to go. Was a couple of years since we stayed at The Langham Place in HK and I just realised they changed to Cordis. Was hoping it wouldn't lower the standards and still be what I liked in the first place. Guess we will have to see next time we go... Perhaps split the stay and do two hotels instead of one.

Arrived at the Cordis Hotel at 7pm, the service from curb-side to club check in at Club floor on level 36 could not fault it, while the ever efficient staff processed our checkin at the side office as they checked other customers - we had the included drink or three from the excellent selection in the club lounge bar.

Then to our room on level 33 and our luggage was there waiting, the room is simply sensational and huge by HK standards 29sm, has a firm and very comfy king bed, big marble bathroom, huge rain shower with extras side adjustable wall head, large separate bath, a bedroom picture window view from floor to ceiling, even a mobile phone with free calls to international as well, bottles of water and coffee making facilities and even a built in panel to plug in just about any device to the large wall mounted TV, also a hotel welcome message on the digital in house phone window. Bottled water provided as was an international power adapter for portable devices.

Now back to the club lounge, enough seating including a computer bench great views, a stool table and couple L shaped lounges and bar didn't close until midnight or so. The food selection consisted of just a mere 3 dishes each night, no boiled rice to be seen, they also had salads but forget finding sliced tomatoes or cucumber, nothing to write home about, there was also selection of cakes cut into miniature pieces. Around 8pm they brought out some deserts yet once again not mouthwatering.

While the basic breakfast was available at the Club inc chef for eggs and the like, guests said go to main dining room The Place on ground floor, we did just that and it was sensational!, every dish you can imagine, chef at the ready plus coffee came from the separate baristas in a minute, all the staff throughout the Cordis were fast and friendly - simply top notch, as good as.

Checkout wa seamless and efficient and outside we were gone in 60 seconds, can highly recommend this hotel for quality, service and location to MTR.

Club floor privileges:
