I wonder if any of our fellow posters can confirm that they actually got HBA rates, or just generic rates.
Antony, I specifically looked at rates for HBA on the websites of Avis, Budget, Hertz and Thrifty. Budget has the best deal right now for economy car @ ~$190 for 4 days (all inclusive). I will look again beginning of November.

I have also looked at car hire in Feb/Mar from LST to DPO and the price from Budget is the same as above.

Hi John

I just got Economy $184 (all inclusive-700 excess) through Europcar. (Did you see my prevous post amendment, Compact for $205?

I specifically was questioning the quote of hertz $35 from Markis10. I would be interested to know how he manages to get such a good quote.

I keep forgetting about Europcar. There is also Red Spot and now Standbyrates. The excess does not concern me as I would rather hire a car with $2500-$3000 excess and not pay extra money to reduce it as I take out travel insurance and I am covered with $3000 excess.

Even the $35/day rate, mentioned by markis10, would still be >$180 for 4 days after taxes and charges are calculated. What I find interesting is that I can hire an economy car for 4 days with Budget for ~$10 more, possibly less and in some cases cheaper, than hiring a car with a corporate rate discount from one of the other rental companies.

HBA is not a Hertz corporate location and that probably explains the rates, bit like NT, very expensive when compared to other cities.

John, $35 a day with hertz, 45 with Avis
Shouldn't have doubted you! Hertz worked out even cheaper @ $30/day + taxes.

Sure beats my rates.

A falcon at HBA would cost me $53 all-in per day.
