Cost justification to renew my Amex Charge Platinum

Rang them up last week, asked about getting a fee reduction, got told no (not surprising really). I've said to them if I cancel my card and get an affinity plat charge card instead, that's instantly $200 cheaper without any haggling whatsoever. The rep confirmed yep that's true but they can't do anything to either transfer my existing "product" to another "product" so the only way is to cancel it then re-apply.

Didn't bother asking what will happen to my Reserve card, will I need to re-apply for that should I go down the path of getting an affinity plat charge.

Which member association provides an affinity plat charge card? Most ones I checked has the Plat Reserve or Edge only but no Plat Charge :(

CPA or CA, I can give you the link if you want. Free of charge:cool:

AMA too, I believe.

can anyone tell me if this is worth getting. Obviously there are lots of pros and cons that I can explore myself. But the odd personal opinion would be useful too
Thanks in advance

The AMA version cost $700 per year as opposed to the standard $900. As an AMEX plat charge card holder for the last 2 years, I will be cancelling mine shortly due to the point earn change recently, and to a lesser extent, the (significant) watering down of the travel insurance benefits

many thanks. I do remember tripping around the site recently and not being thrilled by what was on offer
BTW the AMA do a yearly travel policy that we have used for a number of years. It may be of interest to you
We have had one claim and the experience was overwhelmingly positive

Not sure if AMA offer the policy of if it is state based. AMAWA use Chubb but looking at the PDS I didn't feel the cover was at the level of Columbus or TID, and it doesn't cover skiing. I have the PDS if anyone would like it.

state based via AMA WA
Interesting that our claim was a snowboarding accident (albeit 4 years ago) and was paid almost immediately without a single quibble. Why we have stuck with them
IIRC there was a big renegotiation this year and we have only just received our renewal. I think we have paid it without reading it too much...oops
