Hi

Just wondering if this could work in theory. I have a free flight via the ANZ rewards CC deal. I'd like to travel from Perth-Mel Aug 3rd-5th.

Can anyone assist and tell me if they think this would be possible for 2 passengers?

a) organise the free flight and upgrade with points to J class
b) buy another ticket on the same flight and upgrade to J class with points.
c) chances of sitting next to each other?

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread but does anyone think the stars could ever align for such a plan?

Thanks

Chances are very high, with one major proviso: I'm not sure you can upgrade ANZ rewards redemptions with points. Most rewards/FF bookings cannot be upgraded with points.

Flights in Aug will have good availability at this point, with 2 seats usually available to begin with.

Once booked, you can choose your seat so will be able to choose seats beside each other with this lead time.

The T&Cs do indeed state that it is not possible to upgrade. However I have been able to in the past, both with points and via the UpgradeMe bid.

Yes, I was able to upgrade using points last time as well. And contrary to the T&Cs, I earned points and SCs.

I booked an ANZ reward and it has the option to upgrade. It would be the same as upgrading a getaway/elevate, not a freedom.
Check reward availability for those dates before you book anything. i.e select "Use Points + Pay" to do a dummy search on the Virgin website.
I don't think its too difficult, just make sure you get an A330 to maximise comfort and seating availability.
I just had a quick look there isn't any award availability on the a330's direct PER-MEL on the 3rd, however, there is on the day before and after.
Hope this helps.
