COVID-19 and Tennis

I think Novaks Dad should be charged with incitement as well while they are at it.

He’s trying to rev up the anti vaxxers (who took a well earned holiday from pointless protesting) to storm the streets…
Huge protests in Melbourne I see

(and this needs a thread of its own). Maybe one for Tennis Tales.

Maybe now Governents of all persuasions will realise it should be one rule for some and the SAME rule for others, unlike what has happened during this pandemic.

If you let some through you have to let all through. And if the rules are too tough for some, then maybe it’s time to get rid of it for all.

As I indicated upthread this is a rerun of Queensland granting exemptions for film stars and palming off blame to the Feds.

The health advice from the then CHO was that it was “important to the Queensland economy that they be allowed in”

I suspect there's more to come out as another article referenced that ATAGI didn't see recent infection as a means to avoid immunisation. And the feedback from people suggests there's no way the Vic Govt would get involved.

If it goes to court it could get interesting if there have been commitments made by either level of government

Re-the tennis player initially apparently getting through an independent panel’s approval to enter without a vaccination. I guess the panel would be relying on the paperwork for tennis player obtained overseas from ?doctors. Who gave the paperwork and under what circumstances would I suggest be worthy of further investigation, if they could.

But the exemption paperwork is irrelevant if he tried to enter on a work visa. Too funny.

They were involved from the start
- the 2nd “independent panel of medical assessors” were from the Vic Govt.

Which leads me to this question. Why didn’t the Govt use their current method of exemption assessment which was a delegate of Vic Chief Health Officer?. Why all of a sudden use a panel that didn’t exist prior to this saga.

I don't understand why a central authority doesn't review such issues as immigration and Australian border control. I'd always assumed that was the case for the last 2 years and the States just have input as to relevance for the economy etc etc.

I read somewhere that sportspeople are possibly eligible under 408 visa. But I think it needs to be applied before being at the border. Not sure if unvaccinated exempted person are allowed under this visa/process.

There is also a question of how other unvaccinated exempted tennis players already entered. They need to keep quiet or else might be deported under the visa condition ‘not be disruptive’.

Despite the entertainment, I guess Djokovic will lose in court then get returned then reapply under another visa (or do so while appealing in court) and be allowed into Australia.

"The ABC understands Djokovic was taken to a hotel controlled by immigration officials around 10am AEDT. "

Oh man the possibility of Novak being in the Broadmeadows detention facility is just priceless mental imagery 😂

Yes
I’ll be watching outcome avidly…
…been going to the AO since Kooyong days when I was an intern… spend all night working in Cas (that ages me - aka ED) then tennis and fall asleep on the hard benches Mid afternoon in boiling sun.. aaah folly of youth !
Seriously thinking of donating my semi and final tickets if I have to watch him play - and whether I’ll bother supporting AO again.
