Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with applying for a cc without an actual income. The reason I ask is that I'm considering doing an application for one of the current promos in my parents name and then transfer the points over once they've landed. They are both retired, own their home and have a decent amount in savings. They would have a pretty clean record with no bankruptcy or anything like that. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of situation?

Thanks in advance.

What do they live on, Government Pension, superannuation draw downs - these items are usually counted as "income" for this purpose

I think this is a bit of a simplistic view. I have found that since I have retired many credit card providers are difficult to convince you are a worthy new client- their "definitions" of income are different to mine!

Both my retired parents applied for the recent 110,000 pts promo with the Amex Velocity Plat card...both had very modest incomes and were approved instantaneously :) Have booked SQ J Adl -Sin - Hkt (stop)- Sin (stop) - Adl for them, and they are very happy :)

Like andye, I think they will find out about it when I advise them ;) (if I do go ahead with it).

My mother is retired, Dad still works a bit and is self employed. They sold an investment property about 18 months ago so are comfortably living off that in their savings at this stage.

Two of my friends have made it to YES on the Bankwest Platinum Visa CC when they are "retired". So yes it is possible. I saw kpc's post that was positive as well. So the sign on bonuses worked great for Velocity Amex and the Bankwest offers.

Why will I be forging their signatures? They'll get the cards, sign them and use them to meet the spend criteria.

It should never be necessary for the "reasonable man/woman" to break the law. Forgery is a serious offence and if prosecuted your potential travel to places like the US could be off.

Elderly relatives of mine have made similar applications. No income from employment, but income from shares + term deposits. They had to fill in a few more forms than normal and speak with the CC company directly but they were all approved. Albeit with lower limits than I received.

Making an application for credit on behalf of someone else without their knowledge would necessarily entail such.

I think you've misread the original post, either that or you have a nefarious thought process.

I usually tell when I've just completed the application (Mrs andye not a big fan of forms). Howver, plenty of online applications don't need a physical signature until further down the line

Doesn't ticking the box saying that you agree to the declaration the credit provider is asking for essentially a digital signature?

I don't think so. But it might depend on exactly how its worded.
