Credit card application with no 'income'

I have removed a couple of posts here. PLEASE stick to the topic and post accordingly and stop picking on each other.

As a self funded retiree I find this an interesting thread and have to say what I am reading mirrors my experience. It is possible to get new CCs but sometimes the amount of 'garbage' they require is over the top. I have walked away from a couple of applications as they were getting way to personal in their information requests.

I don't think so. But it might depend on exactly how its worded.

I'm no lawyer but surely you're either making a statement or declaration (depending on the credit provider) and doing so on behalf of someone without their permission is fraud.

Thanks Straitman - Have you found that some are worse than others?

I applied for a VA (something) CC several years ago and they simply could not handle my situation. They wanted to know my total worth etc on top of all the other usual questions. I told them where to go but they really didn't comprehend. I haven't bothered with any recently.

A very narrow interpretation IMHO as there could be a whole host of acceptable situations.

I'm not saying that filling out the form is fraud, just hitting the "submit" button without approval. Akin to walking into a bank branch and signing their name on a credit card application.

I don't necessarily need you to agree however I do request/expect a polite answer.

Sorry, what you are saying is rubbish. There are no circumstances where applying for credit in someone else's name without their knowledge is legitimate.

I often explain to women that they really do need to have their own credit rather than run with a partner card. It can be too late when their life long partner is gone and they want a credit card but have stopped working. It can be difficult getting to YES and I was pleased that Bankwest were able to get two of my retired friends over the line recently.

Quite sensible really

Not all women have all taken up the challenges of superannuation/retirement saving nor credit cards. It is much harder to get a bank to say yes to a first time credit card applicant in the 75 plus age group and the questions asked by banks can be quite upsetting. If all else fails a Citibank debit card is pretty easy to get and use.
