Credit Cards for Velocity/Kris

Well I just applied for the Westpac Black for convenience sake, and I still have to send in bank statements and all that. Can't they just look at my accounts since I bank with them
From my experience, Westpac doesn't really value existing customers much. I had a mortgage with them in the past, including credit cards, bank accounts, etc. I then paid off my mortgage and within a year or so decided to get a mortgage again. I remember having a few conversations with them and with various staff and they all treated me as if I'm a new customer who never bank with them at all.

So how would the rate be if transferred to Velocity first, then from Velocity to KF (if needed)? If I have 10,000 ANZ points, what would they be worth under the different circumstances?

You would end up with 3703 going via velocity, direct to Krisflyer gives 3333.

10000/2=5000, 5000/1.35=3703
or
10000/3=3333

It's so weird. I'm in the same position as you, have banked with them since I was a child, and have mortgage and cards with them and they still want paperwork. I emailed them saying to just check my accounts with them, if they still request it, I'll probably just change banks. I value loyalty and if they treat you like that, what's the point of staying with them.

OK, unless I am missing something. I just logged into WP Altitude and ANZ Black and did a dummy transfer in both.
If I spend $10K on Westpac Amex you get 3 points per $1 = 30,000 points. When I transfer 30,000 Altitude points I get a total of 15,000 KF mile.
If I spend $10K on ANZ Black Amex I get the same 30,000 rewards points, however when just did a dummy transfer to KF it gives me 10,000 KF miles.
Am I missing something?? Cheers M

Only that they are not the same. ie US $ and $Aust are both $ but are different in value (though can be the same)

I always tend to think of my various cards as in how many KF points they are earn me per $. Though I will sometimes use a QFF or Velocity card when the points/$ is enough.

So at present I use:
Edge at Supermarkets (and Gift Cards) 3KF/$
Amex Black Westpac for all my PayPal (includes spnd that would otherwise have to go on a VISA/MC) and Amex non-supermarket spend at1.5KF/$
Amex Velocity at Restaurants and Hotels = 3 Velocity points /$ (I could convert to KF but will probably use it redeem when Velocity makes sense).
Citibank Singanture at all other VISA/MC spend = 0.75KF/$

I will use one of my Amex's enough to activate travel insurance for international trips.

Thank you!
4 hours sleep and way too early to engage my brain. Glad to see someone else is getting to the same results that I am.

Yep, pretty much use same combo with the exception of AMEX Velocity Escape for VA. I seldom go to restaurants so no need for Amex Velocity. I use Prestige for all Visa/MC only charges.
The OP was comparing ANZ black against WP Altitude, hence my comparison.

Nothing more fun than buying 16 x $100 JB HiFi gift cards on Edge, then putting them through the till at JB for a lap top. It's a slow process :)

What about the NAB card? That's what I'm currently using. It give 60k bonus velocity points on signup and I spent like 3.5k on the card his month and got about 5k points? Is that right? 150(?) annual fee I think..

Also, keep swapping between cards. It's a hassle but well worth it for the bonus signup points.

I just noticed a few things in this thread... Namely the amazing earn rate at supermarkets for the Amex Edge...

Edge at Supermarkets (and Gift Cards) 3KF/$
*
Do the free flights given with this card earn status credits on Virgin?

As for visa card, I guess I'll just keep churning promos.

Good thread, good tips. Thanks.

Agree, Edge is good for many things: supermarkets, petrols, and dan murphy's. No, no status credits from free flight. Well, it doesn't apply to me anyway.

New card sorted and it is the Westpac Black.

So now I have Amex Edge, Westpac Black, Virgin Flyer (plus old Ignite card).

Should I hold onto the Virgin Flyer or Westpac Ignite? Upgrade to Virgin High Flyer and Westpac Platinum?

Don't know what to do now!

Edge, WP Black and VFlyer is a good combo. If your monthly spend on Visa (non Amex) is greater than say 2k then consider VHigh flyer. If your visa spend is greater than 10k per month consider Citi Prestige over VHigh flyer.
