Crediting JAL Domestic flights to QFF

I believe you should receive the discount Y + F surcharge.
Yeah, that's what I thought too but it just credited as Discount Y (Economy) instead. But then again evidently the upgrade did something since my other otherwise identical G-class booking without upgrade did not credit anything at all.

I guess it's just a random coughshoot when booking JAL Domestic, especially with upgrades :)

Just over a week ago I flew HND-ITM in paid First. It was one of the cheaper fares, and although absolutely nothing I received from JAL gave any indication of a fare class, I believe it booked into A class (I can see the same fare available on the route, and it's only available on flights with A inventory).

The flight hasn't credited at all yet. And, confusingly, although the Qantas points calculator lists JAL First on that route as crediting 50SC, the fare mapping table doesn't make any mention of 'A' class in any category (including those earning as 'economy plus premium/first surcharge').

Given 'A' isn't listed, should I just assume it's not eligible? And if it was eligible, how do you know how many SC the various 'x plus y surcharge' fares would earn, as it doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere on the QFF site?

Edited to add: it's what the JAL site refers to as a 'Saver' fare:
https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/en/dom/fare/rule/saver/

Though I note those rules are the same link for an Economy class Saver, a Class J Saver, or a First Class Saver, so I'm not sure how helpful that is. No 'Tokubin' or other fare branding visible that I can see.

Yeah, JAL changed their domestic fares dramatically back in April, so fares like "Tokubin" etc. don't exist anymore. I haven't personally flown on a non-explorer JAL domestic fare since this change, so I'm unsure if Qantas' system has been updated to work with these new fares.

From past experience I would expect all First fares to credit, so I'm surprised to hear that yours hasn't.

Thanks, that's good to know. Certainly as a paid First fare you'd expect it at least to credit as *something*. It might just be delayed? Will keep an eye out for it.

I've reliably had JAL Domestic flights always credit on the Monday on the week after a given flight (unless the flight falls on a Sat or Sun, in which case it credits the following week). Therefore I would expect your flight to credit imminently.

Even if it's a zero earn class, it should still show in your QFF history with a zero entry.

Keeping an out eye too after domestic "J Class" flights

Update: recent domestic flights all credited today so must be batched. Discount "J class" has credited as economy.

My flight also credited today. Saver First Class fare credited as 'Flexible economy' so 20SC and 400 points... which is pretty weak but better than nothing I guess.

Well, if you booked Saver then I suppose "Discount Economy plus First Surcharge" makes sense. With that said, I don't actually think JAL's domestic flights work on the whole economy + premium cabin surcharge model anymore since the domestic fare overhaul.

You can still pay the premium surcharge to upgrade at check-in, although the prices have changed.

The Qantas partner earn categories for JAL domestic flights are all over the shop and very unreliable at the moment.

JAL rejigged all domestic fares in April (I believe this coincided with a major overhaul of their domestic booking system) but nothing has been changed on the Qantas side yet.

I clicked that link ….. regrets.

I have never read any webpage or communication from JAL that was simple. What on earth is so complicated with selling airfares in Japan. 🤣

A little off topic but...

My favourite example of Japanese Airline communication is https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/en/jalmile/flyon/diamond.html

Your benefits for achieving Diamond tier are split into "First Services", "Second Services", and "Third Services", depending on how long it's been since you achieved the status. Why?

Also if you want to request a physical membership card, this timeline details when you can and cannot request one: https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/en/jalmile/flyon/application-flow/

I recently booked SYD-HND-OKJ via Qantas, with the SYD-HND sector on QF (discount economy) and HND-OKJ on JL. Given it was a paid ticket issued by QF, I assumed we'd get at least something for HND-OKJ but it has eventually showed up on the activity statement as "No matching rule element" (which, oddly, is the same as what the HIJ-HND sector on our return showed up as, however that was part of an award ticket.

I was only expecting 10SC from this so I should probably just forget about it, but is this probably an error? Or is it normal for QF-issued paid JAL tickets to be zero earning?

Do you know what fare class the domestic JL flight was? I know Qantas really obfuscates this but you should be able to check if you can still bring up your booking in MMB.

Otherwise, did the online booking UI show status credits earn for that sector? If so, you probably have a claim. Doing some dummy searches on the Qantas website does seem to consistently show ❌ for status earn on the JL sector though.

Thanks for quick reply! No I can't still bring up the booking, however I think you're correct that it probably did show up as non-earning in the booking flow view. What I definitely can remember is that once it was booked, it had that noncommittal 'you may earn' message, so I just thought QF's systems couldn't automatically calculate it in advance.

Our SYD-HND-OKJ flights cost exactly the same as SYD-HND would have on their own, so it was effectively a freebie anyway.
