Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

Mum was speaking to a travel agent who said they would not be surprised if all cruises around the world are cancelled in the next 2 weeks. She advised my mum not to book anything until August.

Beginning to ponder a cruise I have booked along the Nile in April. 🤔 Final payment due in a week.

Tossing up between the risks of anyone on board having it (smaller population on a river boat, none in the country reported so far) against if someone does have it, what the "isolation" and medical facilities in Egypt would be like?
BTW once you get "Ramses Runs" about 7 days after arriving in Egypt you will probably wish that you got Coronavirus instead! 🤣

Asia maybe. Not worldwide.

With these ships being turned away from multiple ports and being effectively detained at sea, how long before the situation onboard degenerates into a "Lord of the Flies" scenario?

I imagine that it’s life as usual onboard but with no porting, except for Diamond, but as every cabin has been in isolation then there is no mingling to get a group thing happening. I’d expect everyone understands the situation.

Royal Caribbean banning all Chinese passport holders, whether or not they have been in China in the last 14 days, including crew.

Amazing how quickly it has spread on the ship in Japan given most cruisers are fairly aggressive on hand washing and cleaning versus your normal city.

Right on cue:

Lockdown passengers on Diamond Princess going ‘stir crazy’

The collective mood aboard the stricken Diamond Princess luxury cruiseliner has darkened.
Only the 61 people who have contracted coronavirus have been allowed to disembark, leaving the remaining 3650 increasingly frustrated passengers in limbo.

Brisbane couple Carole and John Welch admit they are “battling”, and can see others on-board becoming deeply anxious.

The pair said the ship’s captain was delivering regular updates but passengers’ patience was wearing thin. “He keeps thanking everyone for their patience, but I am not sure how much longer people are going to be patient for.

They knew at the beginning of this that there were 260+ people showing evidence of the illness so they had already potentially started on the disease process.

Yes, I must even the UK FB poster who has been amazing looked rather stressed this morning. But on the other hand I dont trust the media not to overamp.

Lets just hope no one tries to swim to shore.
Tell you what, if I was on an inside I'd be thinking of doing that by now! Also I think its up to 64 passengers now.
Diamond has to go out to sea later today in order to produce some more water for use. And the Captain has already said it will be bumpy. Poor B**gars.

Seems like those testing positive were on a bus trip with the Trigger Patient, the 80 year old Chinese/Hong Kong Resident. Those on that bus trip were the first batch to be tested when his results became known. He disembarked in Hong Kong, and it seems unclear whether he just purchased a shorter cruise or because he was feeling unwell and he lived in HK anyway so he got off.

Let's hope nobody gets the idea of starting a fire onboard to try to force disembarkation that way

Laem Chabang will welcome all the cruise ships. Thailand has had a very friendly response to the Coronavirus. Flights to China are still operating normally and there are no restrictions on arrivals (currently). The Thai PM (Junta leader) has made it clear that he does not want to irritate China and their tourist $$$$ to the country. Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia have made similar statements

I'm not sure how well that is going to work out for Thailand, but if the virus mutates there I wonder if it will be called the Changvirus or the Singhavirus?
