Hmmm. Son and DIL left this morning from UK on Cunard to Amsterdam and not required. I think it's a US thing? Viking are also testing but only in Southern Hemisphere because of the arrival country regulations.

I was worried they’d changed their requirements! A PCR would have been painful given many of the pop up clinics have now closed!

VPS is in UK about to do a transatlantic. But son, also in UK and boarded Cunard just now didn't need one to Europe.

I discussed antivirals with my GP before I left and you can't get them to take with you because they can't prescribe them unless you have covid.

And I know of one GP in Victoria who would not prescribe the antivirals to a younger man but who had a very complicated medical history and had tested positive on RAT, who then wanted him to have a PCR. And PCR clinics are very difficult to persuade if you've already tested positive on RAT. They say that's enough.

Bad accident onboard Vikings newest Antarctica expedition ship. A zodiac bladder blew up throwing one passenger into the water and a woman with a badly fractured leg. She needs medical attention that can't be provided on a ship. They were on their first day in Antarctica when it happened but their cruise is now effectively over as ship is heading back to Ushuaia.

And the Polaris is captained by Viking's first female captain. A Captain we sailed with on her first voyage as Captain on the Silver Explorer from Iceland to Hudson Bay. Captain Maggie with her standard ship board 6 inch heels. You knew it was going to be rough weather if she appeared in flat shoes. An excellent Captain.

There has been another incident with monster storms happening and cabin windows smashed in. Those occupants have arrived In Ushuaia to disembark prematurely but can't access their cabins due to investigations. Their other ship is still battling their way through but photos are rather scary.

Viking and Silverseas have a long history together. This cruise would have very much challenged her.

It seems that the ship has had a rough run back across the drake, has sustained some damage and there are more injuries...

We just got off the Coral Princess Monday. There didn’t seem to be much Covid on the PNG 11 day cruise. The crew was enforcing masks and were handing them out at the entrance to all venues. We did post cruise RATs this morning, all clear. There had been some kind of medical emergency while we were docked at Alotau delaying departure by about 14 hours. The patient was helicoptered out. But we still arrived in Rabaul on time so all good. I heard some pax were robbed at Rabaul by a man with a machete so we took very little ashore and stayed in busy areas like markets and museums. It was a good cruise to some beautiful islands but probably our last for awhile. We have a lot of land based birding to do before we get much older.

I have just turned on the television. Chanel 7 is showing “Disasters at Sea” and a February 2007 incident when MV Explorer sank in Antarctic, stranding 144 pax and crew in inflatable rafts.

I wonder if that was scheduled programming or a last minute inclusion? At least Polaris didn’t get that far, although they tragically lost at least one life.

I would have like to see Captain Maggi's face when she saw that !! She was renown on Silverseas for wearing her 6" silettos, if you saw her in flats - you knew you were in for rough seas !! She was the Captain ON THIS CRUISE !!

Yep. I wonder if the haste in returning the injured passenger to shore may resulted in fast speeds. The other ship is on the same route but travelling much slower now.
