That sounds like the way to do it! I want to go
SYD - HKG
HKG - DXB
DXB - LHR
Independent travel by rail in Europe
LHR - YUL
YUL - SEA
SEA - SFO
SFO - LAX
LAX - HNL
HNL - SYD

If I travel Y and pay for the North American sectors I should fit into the 5 stopover condition, shouldn't I?

If your stopovers are HKG, DBX, LHR, YUL//LAX, HNL then that's five.

That said, if this is a business class reward, then LAX/HNL then HNL/SYD probably isn't "worth" it IMHO. LAX->SYD J is better value for money, and you could add another stop some where else.

Be wary of travel on AA within the USA on a QFF oneworld award.

If on a two class flight, there is only First & WHY, if on a business class award QFF will book you into WHY.

What I would do is fly to/from ther USA and purchase separatly one or two strategic YUP fares to get where I wished in that country.

Hi Serfty

I always thought one of the advantages of flying an OWE in J in the USA on a 2 class aircraft was that AA will put you into First and earn First SCs?? If not, then you're right, just organise your trip to arrive and depart from the USA and buy your own set of YUP/KUP fares. That'd be much better value, and since you're not using up your 6 flights within NA will allow you to use the full 4 flights in other continents (assuming DONE4 or higher).

If flying on a DONE* then the rules state that flights in NA on two class planes will book into F if there's availability

But QANTAS OneWorld J awards book in Y on two-class Y/F planes (regardless of where in the world that flight is)

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

So this rule is then only applicable to QF Awards (280K points). Conversely, am I right in assuming that a fully paid OWE product purchased via QF does not attract this downgrade?

Yes, that's correct. I did a paid OWE 16 stopover trip last year.
