Just been reading several threads on insurance which opened my eyes. Head no idea what to take into consideration. At the risk of duplicating threads - the most interesting one was on annual insurance policy. I am after a single policy to either Singapore, or Fiji or a South Pacific cruise. I have no pre existing illnesses and will not engage in dangerous activities while away. I am 68. I want to ensure that I will have coverage if Qantas cancels flights (will be using points both ways) and also that potential issues pertaining to COVID are covered. My trip will be for a maximum of 21 days. I do not plan to use my credit card insurance. I am prepared to pay a premium to ensure that I am appropriately covered. Any thoughts….

Most insurance policies will be fine. Check the different levels as some don't offer Covid insurance. Silver and gold usually do. I've had excellent service with Travel Insurance Direct with a major accident claim in Thailand. They were absolutely brilliant. Not expensive either. Silver and gold cover for cancellations etc as might the basic ones. It's the Covid clause that I think is essential now and some overseas countries require proof of cover for Covid.

Be truthful in the application.
Disclose all previous medical conditions that they ask about on the application.
My wife recently had to return to Australia urgently due to illness first diagnosed while we were on holiday in the UK. We tried to book a return flight urgently, but could not find any empty seats ourselves. Tried to contact Qantas in July to get her an urgent return flight, still waiting for a return phone call, or a reply to our email.
Contacted our travel insurance company, who requested access to my wife's medical records, and they arranged a return flight within a few days.
If we had lied or misrepresented any of our medical records, I seriously doubt that the insurance company would have accepted any responsibility. The insurance company ultimately refunded all our medical costs incurred in the UK amounting in excess of £4000 plus paying for her return flight.
