I just spent a bit of time on Google Flights looking for the cheapest round-trip J airfares from various starting points in Asia. I figured I might as well share this list here as it may be of interest to some AFFers.

I looked for flights originating in Jakarta, Bali, Singapore, KL, Bangkok, coughet, Manila, Hong Kong and Tokyo. These were some of the cheapest ones:
  • EY MNL-GVA $2,342
  • EY MNL-IST $2,553
  • SV MNL-MXP $2,682
  • EY MNL-DUB $2,786
  • EY MNL-BCN $2,798
  • EY MNL-MAD $2,804
  • EY MNL-DUS $2,836
  • EY MNL-CPH $2,893
  • EY MNL-ATH $2,911
  • SV KUL-GVA $3,107
  • EY KUL-MUC $3,181
  • SV KUL-BCN $2,875
  • SV KUL-MAD $3,115
  • KC HKT-FRA $3,014
  • AY BKK-WAW $3,214
  • AY BKK-BCN $3,220
  • KC BKK-FRA $3,014
  • KC BKK-LHR $3,284
  • AY BKK-CDG $3,161
  • AY BKK-DUB $3,164
  • AY BKK-BRU $3,149
  • AY BKK-FCO $3,312
  • EY CGK-AMS $3,308
  • QR SIN-ATH $3,477
  • TK SIN-HAM $3,639
  • TK SIN-CDG $3,735

FWIW, the cheap Etihad fares out of Manila are already being discussed here:

There's also an existing thread on the QR SIN-ATH deal:

And if you're wondering how you can take advantage of these fares if you live in Australia, have a look at this article: https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/strategies-cheap-business-class-europe/

QR fares seem to come and go ex CGK (I booked MAD for mid year sub $4k. CX has had some decent fares from time to time but you can get coughpy regional seats if not careful.

CGK comes and goes on QR often, but a good shout. They do sometimes have promo codes that take the price down (found MNL-FCO return on QR for $3150) - Also OT, but QR to JFK from CGK (booked via AA) is also often cheap, around $4.5k

Some bizarre pricing.

Looking at Kuala Lumpur to Europe in May returning June, and it's under $3000 to Munich via Amsterdam, but $3500 to Amsterdam itself!

As I want to go to Dublin, backtracking to Munich to save money isn't particularly attractive.

I'm now leaning towards this and similar routes and airlines over the Middle Eastern airlines, as they are both quicker and give much longer flight duration in Business Class to extract maximum benefits.

The cheapest KLM fares don't have lounge access but with fewer layovers, this is less of an issue.

KLM seems to be on sale at the moment ex CGK, with fares to various European destinations under AUD3k return.

E.g. CGK-FCO for $2989 return in J via AMS.
I just checked some dates I’m already booked on QR ex CGK - nothing cheap on KLM but QR is now $800 cheaper than I paid a few months ago…and that still started with A$4…

And all bizarrely less expensive than Amsterdam itself, though routed through Amsterdam.

Actually very common to have the cheaper offers to / from somewhere other than the airlines hub(s).
