Just checking, I will have to do customs, etc. going into the states, etc. on flt. lax-dfw @ lax, won't I?
If this is the case, I will have to rebook my luggage at lax, right?
thanks in advance.

You'll need to clear customs on entry at LAX along with your bags before rechecking them, on your DFW-LAX-AU flight, you'll check your bags from DFW through to AU (assuming the airlines concerned interline) and clear customs at LAX on exit (for which you dont need to collect bags)

To be clear, when on Oz-LAX-DFW routing, your checked luggage will be tagged through to DFW from Oz. Your Oz-LAX and LAX-DFW BPs will also be issued in Oz.

When arriving into LAX, you will clear immigration then collect your checked luggage from the carousel. You then walk past final customs, down a corridor (about 20 metres) where it opens out somewhat. On the left there, you hand over your luggage when it will be sent off to your DFW flight.

Proceeding a little more you'll find yourself Landside; you will need to head to the terminal for your DFW flight and re clear security.

* if the airlines have an interline agreement.
