Cutting the Foxtel Cable? 2018 price increase!

Hi Folks,
Got a letter from Foxtel yesterday advising of a price hike. No big deal, it's their right I guess.
The letter is smarmy and is mostly spin, trying to tell me how much extra value they will be providing me (er...none) and how exciting their upcoming features will be (er...not very).
Anyway, my question is this:
Is the letter valid if it does not have anything on it that actually identified the entity from which it was issued and also offered no return address for correspondence, nor email address nor phone number?
It had a foxtel label and that's it.
I'm not going to try to get out of the price rise (fat chance anyway!) but it just made me think.
Regards,
Peter

I got a letter like that recently.

I thought the thread would be about how much the actual increase would be.

My letter spoke of a $2 a month increase and then went on to discuss an $8 a month discount I'd apparently been getting for a few years which I'd no longer be getting. As far as I'm concerned that's a $10 per month increase which is ridiculous and they should be apologising for this. All the other packages were reduced a few years ago but my full package wasn't. I think it's time for a renegotiation and see what incentive they can give me to stick around for another year.

It's mentioned on the web site (I did receive a similar letter).

It's $3+ on the basic "Essentials" or "Entertainment" package.

They don't want to lose you - their ongoing costs for existing installations are low (especially several years and more).

My daughter rang up to cancel "Sports" from her package last month and was offered a $19 per month reduction ($29 -> $10).

This may very well be the final nail in the coffin for my subscription.

I really only have it for the Formula 1 (although I do like the odd documentary) and my wife likes GoT.
Might be time to kick them to the curb.

A college at work rang them about a price increase saying “ unless I can get a discount, my wife is insisting that I cancel the service, how can you help me “. They immediately gave him a cheaper rate.

Ditto...a $3 monthly increase is more than a 10% increase for me...I will be asking what they can offer me to stop me from cancelling Foxtel!

Foxtel is like most credit card providers. Call to cancel and they’ll work out a deal for you

I’ve been using the exact same approach for the past few years. Every time they offer me 6 months of extras or a discount. After it expires, I’m back on the phone again to threaten cancelling.

I phoned about 2mths ago and my monthly bill went from $75 per month to $40, my fault for the not phoning sooner.

The $3 hike was disappointing but still a big saving for us. We don't do Netflix or Stan.

It has been a couple of years now since I disconnected Foxtel (and all other TV subscriptions and free to Air) . Best decision I ever made , right up there with closing down my FB account .

Why pay to watch ads anyway?

Advertisements are what irks me. We pay to see ad's so they don't want to loose us as customers, numbers would go down and the advertisements have no effect. On the strength of similar arguments to above I was able to even significantly reduce the costs. I was prepared to walk away and use a TV unblocker basically a box bought in Hong Kong that gave me freee (English) to air channels from around the world. If you spoke Chinese you would never need anything else. I almost had to walk away because there was one particular person who did not budge ( A male voice) I rang up several times presenting my case to Foxtel and finally the last phone call succeeded.
I am now with Telstra phone internet foxtel package and get the channels I want at no extra costs.

I have to keep it for the sports. I don’t watch sports  I do watch A place to call home but that’s about to finish permanently. Then GoT next year. I’ll call up when I get back to Oz in mid September.

Now as we all know Foxtel has 4K coming in October for Sports channels and you will need to be Satellite connected however high-rise buildings it might be different.

That’s the $64 question.

Going to get an Apple TV
Can get Netflix/Stan with VPN
2,7,9,10 streaming plus previous episodes
Will checkout Amazon Prime and CBS streaming is coming to OZ

Oh and the Apple TV has the TV app which has sports on it. I will use my USA iTunes account and a VPN to get USA sports - not everything but free.
