I am unable to pull the I or D fares up on E/F or ITA.

Here's the summary for "Business Standard" from CX:

Here's the summary for "Business Save" from CX:

So changes are 'free', cancellations cost TWD1200 (~AUD32) even if partially used.

This also is available; but still does not tell us anything we don't already know other than confirming:
On an aside, those "Save" that are available cost AUD560 TPE-xHKG-BKK r/t - not bad for 200 SC's. ;)

3 month to 6 month was approx AU$100 on a half used ticket.
Well that is reasonable and within budget. I wonder what the difference is for 6 month to 12 month ticket.

But no mention of refund for a partially used ticket. Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that refund of partially used ticket is the unused portion of taxes paid less cancellation fee. That would not be a good outcome.

Personally I would like to extend the validity of the unused portion of the ticket and possibly re-instate one of the cancelled bookings but it looks like availability SIN-HKG-TPE on 27 December is very limited.

I suspect the fare differences are at play here, that is a Business Save to Business Standard would be $100 difference for 1 sector, and the upgrade to 12 months will be the fare diff again.

you could always call them and ask?
Yes Dazz81 that would indeed be one option but I do have some time on my hands and would like to try and find out some more information before calling.

Not a good sign. On some of these airfares I researched the difference between I class return and D class return ex-TPE could be ~TWD16,000 which is the double the cost of the I class return.

And just for fun I have just looked on the CX website at business class airfares TPE-HKG-SIN return departing 18 October, 2010 and returning 18 April, 2011. The cost of the airfare not including taxes is TWD16,551 but if returning 19 April, 2011 (obviously a 12 month ticket) the cost of the airfare not including taxes is TWD61,392.

Unless CX reservations apply a different approach to airfare calculation than the one mentioned above then the best I can hope for is a refund of half the original airfare less TWD1,200 cancellation fee.

Last month I tried the same thing..
I was not going make the return portion of my ex tpe ticket, so I called CX AU to ask about extending to 12 months or the amount refunded if cancelled.

They called me back (they had to contact cx tpe) and I was quoted ~1500 AUD for the extension and ~0 AUD for the refund for cancelling a partially used ticket.

In the end I traveled on the last day before expiry to HKG and threw away the tpe segment.

Called CX reservations in TPE but did not bother to extend the validity of the partially used ticket to 12 months as I will be heading off to Thailand tomorrow. I simply changed the date to be inside 6 months and I will now be going to Thailand the long way again SYD-SIN-HKG-TPE-HKG-BKK.

I did cancel the other 2 reservations as I could not fit them into the time available and I was told the refund will be the original fare value less cancellation fee of TWD600 and the refund will take 4-6 weeks to process. Interesting to see what I actually receive as the ticket rules state a cancellation fee of TWD1200.

Looks like there could be some good status runs there at the right times.

I am going to be in TPE next January and have priced a run from TPE-HKG-BKK return at A$700 for 200 SCs. Doable in a day, could be a good way to ensure that I requal for WP next year (says he who is 305 SCs away from qualifying for the first time and on track to qualify for the very first time on 11 Nov :) ).

CX had some good deals ex SIN hkg bkk return for similar money

What is the best positioning flight to TPE?

CX reservations TPE was OK but there was a limit to what they could do. I had to call HKG Online services and they were able to provide much better service.

Interesting that my refunds were processed within 2 business days and credited to my Amex acccount almost immediately.

Also not the right thread but just wanted to mention that I have had 5 CX flights in the last couple of weeks and the loads in business class were quite poor. Only 1 flight HKG-BKK (and then on to DEL I think) had a full business class cabin. The rest were well below 50% load and a couple of flights (including this morning's flight) only had 3-4 people in the business class cabin.

Did I travel CX at the wrong time? I know my experience is not indicative of all CX routes but does not look very good and certainly does not explain why there is limited I class availability on these routes. Anyone have access to recent CX loads?
