Ive flown CX about 4 times this year out of Melbourne and every time I have flown the planes are only about 50% full. I fly in Y so every time I get to take a row of 4 and stretch out.....Im not complaining but it makes me wonder if they make any cash on the route. Probably a good thing as their seats in Y dont recline anyway.

Is it just me or is it standard? They are never the cheapest option either which makes me think they are not willing to price cut to fill their planes.....anyhow just an observation.

It's very difficult to gauge the profitability of a route whilst sitting in the cabin. It could be as much as anything else a cargo route with pax for them, alternatively you've just chosen the very lightly loaded days to fly. of course when you do get those lightly loaded flights they are the best type.

Its probably a price thing I suppose... causing a lack of passengers .. though no recline on a long flight in an already uncomfortable Y seat would put me off straight away no matter the price.

CX carry three times the number of passengers to HKG ex Australia compared to any other airline, if your a leisure traveller with no kids chances are you will shop for travel on days when there is the lowest fares on offer, which means cabins won't be full. With an average yield of 80%, CX are doing well, your just missing the bad flights where it feels like you are on the 8.30 city train with standing room only, aka school holidays and Monday/ Fridays.

Are there particular web sites that show historical yields on routes?
