Quite a bit of speculation on various boards that CX are looking to leave OneWorld if QF tie up with EK and JQ HKG moves forward, we live in interesting times!

I am not sure what the OneWorld actually brings in additional revenue so maybe CX sees it as a threat to there revenue so looking at getting out.

Best to leave speculation where it belongs.

I would not want to see CX leave Oneworld but they have been dropping the ball a lot with me lately. Perhaps time to try out some new blood but MH is taking forever and a day to join Oneworld.

I also see status quo.
Am sure Jetstar HK won't please CX, but don't think EK matters to them - they don't exactly do much with QF anyway.

This speculation has been around since the Air China (Star) / Cathay share swap... So Star is the only place CX could go, but that would mean being in the same alliance as SQ, which I think would be viewed even less favorably.

This is the worse thing I've read all day.

CX = easy J award tickets ex OZ......something that QF doesn't offer:(

.

I agree and I'd just call it idle gossip until it is substantiated with some weight.

I also agree with you John, Cathay have never been OW strongest link (for me) and Emirates/Malaysia would be interesting additions to evaluate for QF associations

CX don't do anything much with OW, anyway. They seem to friggin hate QF, that's fo' sho'.

Speculation, rumour, gossip, zzzz... click 'Next' and come back to me when there is something substantial on this.

QF aside... OW will be worried about this if CX are in fact thinking about it. The implications for losing connections into asia (particularly South-east asian destinations) are quite strong I'd have thought.

I disagree. CX has quite extensive partnerships with OW members;

- JL - codeshares between HKG/TPE and Japan, and beyond to HNL. QF and JL do not even codeshare!
- AA - Transpacific agreement that rivals, if not exceeds, the arrangement QF/AA have
- BA - codeshare with eachother beyond HKG and LHR.
- LA - strong partnership via USA and AKL to South America.

Not to mention CX gives QF Platinums First Class luggage tags. QF does not do the same to CX Diamonds.

In my view, it is QF that hates CX not CX that hates QF.

Have you read CXs ACCC submission? It raises some good points, like the Jetstar China Sourthern Tie Up that's still a WIP etc.

None of which changes that CX leaving OneWorld remains rumour, speculation, gossip...

It does give good background into whats happening behind the scenes though, and after all if it was confirmed, there would not be question marks in the title now would there ;).

If you have been round long enough to be across the CX AN relationship, you would know that CX and QF have never really shared a bed with any degree of comfort or mutual trust, as the orange cancer spreads and QF do an about turn on their anti EK stance, you cannot help but share some sympathy with CX, in the meantime they continue to drive people across to their services ex Aus. Further complications are arising up north with BAs reported move on AA. We have been here a year ago of course with such rumours, its somewhat of a different world a year on.

With respect to OneWorld support perhaps we need to step back and take a different perspective. I'll ignore the biz cabin since pretty much all OW members cross credit to the partners without issue.
At this point most CX Y fares will credit to partners IF they credit to CX (Asia Miles/MPC). Alas AA is the exception but the fare class juggle occurs if originating in the USA. On QF the E, Q and N class fares seem to credit only to QF (except perhaps the JSA Kangaroo route to BA - but BA doesn't give a lot for Y fares in the first place). And I seem to recall a semi-flexible fare ex NewZealand partially in N class?
CX has a subsidiary for regional (KA) flying and it credits to everyone the same way that CX flights do. QF has multiple regional subsidiaries (JQ 3K VF with more coming) none of which credit to anyone, though you can sometimes get cheapish miles and flight credit in the QF program for additional $$.
CX seems to be expanding its international flying both in terms of destinations and improvements to the Y class seating (yes after the sliding seat fiasco trans-Pacific they needed to) and Y+ is being added to all the Australia-HKG flights. QF seems to be reluctant to continue flying anywhere outside of Australia (except LAX LHR and AKL) and certainly only from SYD/MEL.

Which airline is making a better contribution to the One World alliance? And which airline seems interested in getting more PAX in seats?

Happy wandering while you consider...

Fred

I'm hoping they don't leave OW also. They are my "go-to" airline when flying out of BKK to other Asian cities, and I've been able to get some incredible fares by doing so. The fact they fly direct to HKG-ADL is pretty good too - CX all the way. :)

Wow... I must be looking on the wrong days... As CX Diamond I can almost never find any rewards seats apart from Y ex OZ.

I'm a spur of the moment type of traveler - as a QFF I've never had any worries securing 4 sometimes 5 J seats on CX anywhere up to a month out from travel date.

QF on the other hand wants you to plan 364 days out & good luck trying to get 4 seats in any class other than Y.

NB:- I have noticed that QF are starting to loosen their hold on BKK & HKG routes.....however, I'm not going to blow my points on some 3rd rate angled seat! IMO it's flat out or another airline ;)

I have the opposite experience. As a QFWP and an AA OWS they look after me so very well. Last minute flight changes. Including re routing luggage. The only thing they did to upset me was call me out on my stupidly excessive abuse of J luggage. 75kg on a 30 kg ticket ok. 80kg not.
