Texted my cousin who's a teacher at Tully and lives at South Mission Beach. She went to friends at Tully. She hasn't been able to get back to SMB yet to assess damage yet.

To quote my cousin "All good dry n safe. No power or water at Tully with friends will not be able to see damage at beach for a while"

Haven't heard from friends in Townsville or Ayr yet.

How are our AFF members in FNQ (dfcatch etc)....role call?

Thanks Lindsay, I'm safe in Northern California, arrived yesterday.

Just spoke to the folks about 20 mins ago. Optus is still down, power down in CNS in a lot of places but damage is mainly vegetation and that's it.

House and cars are ok at my place, just a few trees down, palm fronds, and some jangled nerves. Mum decided to admit that next time she'll accept my offer of a flight out.

In fairness to my comments on another thread - I even considered whether Platinum Priority Seat Purchase was an option .

Cairns has a second storm surge with waves over the esplanade right now, but should ease over the next few hours.

Cairns airport reopening for limited flights effective 1400 local. Townsville airport opening now for military flights only at this time. Minimal damage done to airport infrastructure at both locations.

Happy to report my house survived in innisfail and my families safe in tully. They saying 1 in 3 houses no roof or destroyed. 1 hell of a night ..!

In fairness to my comments on another thread - I even considered whether Platinum Priority Seat Purchase was an option .

I looked at using this to get a seat for my brother a couple of weeks ago. As far as u could work out the platinum member had to be one of the people travelling and only 2 seats could be purchased. That might not have suited your situation.

It wouldn't have, plus I was after the 12pm day prior deadline. But nonetheless i paused for a moment and considered whether it would be a viable option. The evening DJ flight to AKL was actually perfect but they were stubborn and didn't want to spend my money.

In the end all ok so no harm done.

Power in large parts of CNS is still down, but otherwise everyone I've spoken with in the city is fine. Some bars & restaurants even open today.

Cairns Airport is not open for normal flights until tomorrow, emergency traffic only.

Well, it seems my wife's aunt and uncle were 2 of the 100-odd people who decided not to evacuate Cardwell, but thankfully they're fine.

I don't think they're actually in Cardwell village itself, so I'm not 100% sure they were in the mandatory evacuation area.
